The Spanish National Statistics Institute (INE) has announced the cheapest and most expensive places to go on holiday in Spain, including a cheap, less-visited destination
The cheapest and most expensive holiday destinations in Spain for 2025 have been revealed.
The Spanish National Statistics Institute (INE) has calculated the country’s most and least expensive hotel stays for 2025.
At the top end of hotel prices, Costa del Sol in Marbella was found to be the most expensive, costing around €303 (£250.57) per night. The destination was followed by Balearic Islands and Barcelona, costing on average €194 (£160.43) and €187 (£154.64) per night.
Madrid came in slightly cheaper, costing around €170 (£140.59) per night, but did register the highest price jump of all Spanish cities (14 per cent).
At the other end of the scale, the city of Zaragoza was found to be one of the cheapest places to stay in Spain, with an average hotel room price of €74 (£61.20) a night. This price can be decreased even more by opting to stay in a three-star establishment, which would be around €50 (£41.35) a night.
The Andalucian city of Granada also offers cheap rooms, with an average price of €61 (£50.45) for a three star hotel stay. In Salamanca, this drops to €58 (£47.96) despite being full of architectural and historical marvels.
More specifically, the only destination in July last year with an average hotel price of under €100 (£82.70) was Aragon, where the average cost per night was €87.44 (£72.31). The capital of the region, Zaragoza, which overlooks the Ebro River. The destination is a famous pilgrimage site with a shrine to the Virgin Mary it also has multiple Mudéjar-style landmarks which combine Islamic and Gothic architecture.
The most expensive destination in July last year was the Balearics, including popular destinations of Ibiza and Majorca, where the average price per night was €197.49 (£163.32). In fact, the Balearics have been the most expensive Spanish destination in July, year-on-year, for the past decade.
Whilst the islands between 2015 and 2020 were the most expensive to stay in July each year, in 2021 the trend changed and since the most expensive month to stay in a hotel in the Balearics has been May. Prices shot up from €127.62 (£105.54) per night in April 2020, to more than double, €258.62 (£213.87), in May 2021 and has continued to rise year-on-year since.
A similar trend has been seen in the Canary Islands, where over the past several years, May has become the most expensive month to travel to the destination. However, since 2021, there has been a trend of prices rapidly dropping in April, before rising dramatically in May. For example, last year, the average hotel in the Canary Islands for March cost €175.97 (£143.04). This then dropped to €126.54 (£104.65) in April, before rising to €189.76 (£156.93) in May.
April is still an ideal time to visit the Canary Islands, as temperatures have an average daily high of 23C and daily low of 17C, there tends to be around eight hours of sunshine a day, and clear skies.
In total, British travellers accounted for the largest proportion of tourists staying in Spain during January 2025, equalling 23.2 per cent. The report also found that hotel prices rose by 6.1 per cent in the last year, with destinations charging on average €112 (£92.62) per room in January — a 7.6 per cent rise on January 2024.
