Industrial action is set to impact routes to London Stansted Airport on two specific dates
Travellers departing from Stansted Airport are urged to check their journeys well in advance, due to planned train strikes over the coming days. The industrial action is expected to impact all Cross Country trains to and from London’s airport on two specific dates, likely meaning no services will operate during that period.
Stansted Airport explained that October 18 (this Saturday) and November 1 (Saturday) are the only days affected at this time. In an alert posted to X yesterday, it said: “Cross Country Trains have announced strike action on Saturday 18th October and Saturday 1st November.
“Unfortunately, no Cross Country services will operate to or from London Stansted Airport on these dates. Alternative travel: Greater Anglia will continue to run services from Norwich via Cambridge to Stansted Airport, and Stansted Express services are unaffected.
“Please check your journey before you travel and allow extra time where possible.”
Cross Country’s official guidance similarly warned of ‘significant disruption to services’ on October 18 and said that a ‘very limited service will operate’. This isn’t limited to routes to and from Stansted, as all journeys are due to be impacted by the industrial action and additional engineering work.
Services will commence later and end much earlier, with those that operate expected to be significantly busier than usual. Cross Country has revealed that six key routes will have no services on October 18, including:
- Birmingham – Leicester – Cambridge/Stansted Airport
- Gloucester – Cardiff
- Derby – Nottingham
- Bristol – Plymouth / Paignton / Penzance
- Edinburgh – Glasgow / Aberdeen
- Southampton – Bournemouth (due to engineering work)
However, ‘very limited’ Cross Country services will run between:
- Birmingham – Manchester
- Birmingham – Bristol
- Birmingham – Leeds / York
- Birmingham – Reading
The firm said: “Some services will extend from York to Edinburgh and from Reading to Southampton. Some calling patterns will be different as a result so passengers should plan their journeys carefully before travelling.
“We expect that online journey planners are now up-to-date and showing correctly. Other operators’ services are unaffected by this industrial action. There are also planned engineering works over the weekend, which will also impact which CrossCountry services will run, especially between Southampton and Bournemouth.
“Passengers are strongly advised to check their journey before travelling with National Rail Enquiries or our Service Updates page.”
Cross Country also added that it will ‘provide updates’ regarding the implications of the November 1 strikes for passengers in due course.
