Steve Martin, 80, cancels shows last-minute for the second time due to illness

By staff20 September 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

Veteran actor Steve Martin has had to cancel two of his shows with Martin Short and fans quickly took to social media to wish him a speedy recovery

Actor Steve Martin has been forced to cancel his latest shows at the last minute. The 80-year-old Only Murders star was due to take to the stage on Friday with Martin Short, but had to share the devastating news that illness has forced them to postpone.

The pair took to social media to announce their The Dukes Of Funnytown! tour sjpw at The Dome in Virginia Beach had to be cancelled. And they also pulled the plug on Saturday’s showing at Richmond’s Allianz Amphitheater at the Riverfront.

The news comes after Steve showed a picture of a positive COVID-19 test. He explained in the caption that the show simply couldn’t go in.

Morrissey forced to cancel gigs after chilling ‘credible’ death threat

“Dear Virginia Beach and Richmond. Sadly, I have some down with Covid. I can’t possibly do the show that you deserve,” he wrote. “So Marty and I must cancel tonight & tomorrow. But we will return under better circumstances [sad face emoji].”

Friends and fans were quick to comment on his announcement and send messages of well wishes. Among them was Rita Wilson, who simply wrote: “Feel better!” Brad Garrett also shared the same message.

Another user joked: “Get well soon, man. Downloaded the picture and will send it Monday morning to work, time to take the boat out -Thx!”

It’s the second time the pair have had to cancel shows due to COVID. Back in February, the duo pulled two after Martin contracted it after attending the Saturday Night Live 50th Anniversary special.

At the time, Steve mocked that Martin had shared a kiss with Maya Rudolph. “Maya had Covid. Marty has Covid. I wonder why? The SNL 50th Covid curse is real,” he joked.

As well as their tour, the duo have recently starred together on Only Murders In The Building. It’s said the show is ready for another run after being renewed for a fifth season at Hulu.

Fans have all had the same reaction to a new guest star introduced in the latest episode of the crime comedy, which was released this week.

The fourth episode of season five, titled Dirty Birds, sees podcasting trio Mabel (played by Selena Gomez), Oliver (Martin Short) and Charles (Steve Martin) unexpectedly playing host to the three mega-rich prime suspects in their latest murder investigation.

Following the discovery of a secret gambling hall beneath the Arconia, they’re convinced that three powerful billionaires, Jay Pflug (Logan Lerman), Bash Steeg (Christoph Waltz) and Camila White (Renée Zellweger) are somehow connected to the murder of beloved doorman Lester (Teddy Coluca).
