Stop flies and wasps entering your home by placing 1 fruit by windows and doors

Even though summer is coming to an end, the weather is still warm enough for flies and wasps to make a nuisance of themselves. Here’s a simple way to keep the bugs at bay

Despite summer drawing to a close, temperatures remain sufficiently warm for flies and wasps to continue causing trouble.

If you’re hoping to savour the final rays of sunshine outdoors without being pestered by insects, there are several straightforward measures you can take.

The brilliant news is that these methods are inexpensive and most simply require minor adjustments to your daily habits.

The initial suggestion involves using a natural repellent that wasps find overpowering.

Fresh lemon slices or vinegar prove highly effective, reports the Express.

Simply cut up a lemon or position a dish of vinegar close to entrance points around your property.

Their potent scent confuses the wasps and drives them elsewhere.

Another recommendation is to restrict water access.

During sweltering conditions, wasps become parched and hunt for shade and moisture, making it crucial to clean up any spillages immediately.

Additionally, avoid leaving pet drinking bowls or damp clothing near open windows, as these attract insects indoors.

Beyond water, flies and wasps are attracted to sweet substances.

To prevent them from investigating your property, cover fruit displays, store baked goods and confectionery in sealed containers, and ensure bins remain closed.

It’s also recommended to rinse sugary jars and bottles before putting them out for recycling.

Nancy Emery, cleaning expert at Tap Warehouse, said: “A messy kitchen in summer is unfortunately going to be a magnet for pesky bugs like wasps and flies.

“Wasps in particular can carry bacteria and other pathogens from various sources, like garbage, animal waste, and carcasses, which they can then transfer to your food.”

Nancy advised: “Cleaning regularly is the best way to keep on top of your kitchen hygiene and limit the spread of bacteria and bad smells – and ward off any bugs.

“Try to ensure that every spill or splatter is cleaned straight away, and regularly clean the lid of your bins to ensure no unseen bacteria is left behind.”
