Stop scooping avocados out with a spoon and use one kitchen item instead

Brits have been told to swap the spoon for a common kitchen utensil to scoop out the contents of an avocado.

Whether you love or hate them, avocados are packed with healthy nutrients and are touted as a super-food. Whether it’s mashed on a toast or thinly sliced on a salad, it’s the perfect addition that will keep you full for hours.

But when it comes to preparing an avocado, there are different ways of doing it, using a spoon, a fork or a knife – and if they’re not entirely ripe yet, the contents can be extremely hard to remove.

The most common way to pull out the goodness out of an avocado skin is to remove the seed, and use a spoon to scoop out the rest. However, one TikTok user claims there’s an even easier way to get the job done.

How to peel an avocado

A TikTok video by Anna Knows (@anna.viktori) has gone viral, for using a handheld whisk. With its slimline, curved prongs, the metal appears to glide through the contents. And with avocados somewhat sticky texture, when removing the whisk, the bulk of the avocado comes with it.

Anna had first cut the avocado in half, removed the pit, and then used the whisk to press into the flesh by twisting it, getting all the pulp. Not only does the whisk separate the avocado from the skin and the pit, but it also mashes it in one job.

This technique is ideal for those who are looking to make avocado mash or a guacamole dip. Not only does it deliver the results successfully, but it saves time by avoiding pressing on the avocado once its skin gets removed.

The nine-second video captioned “things I wish I knew sooner” has accumulated over 2.4 million views, almost 22k likes and hundreds of mixed comments.

One user wrote: “Works great with kiwi too!” A second one said: “So easy and fast. Love this kitchen hack.” Nonetheless, many others agreed that using a spoon was better and the clean-up was less messy.

A third one commented: “Now you’ll spend 15 minutes trying to get every bit of avocado out of that whisk.” Another one joked: “Now post a video cleaning the whisk.”
