Strictly Come Dancing judge, Anton Du Beke, tried to trick his fans on April Fools’ Day today, but the joke ended up being on him after a bit of a blunder
Strictly Come Dancing star, Anton Du Beke, fell foul of the ‘rules’ of April Fools’ Day today while trying to crack a joke. Celebrities have been flocking to social media all morning, hoodwinking their followers with funny fibs, as is customary on April 1.
Anton, 58, tried to get in on the action too when he took to Instagram announcing he’d just bagged a modelling contract. In his cheeky post – in which he sported a Prada Milano baseball cap, denim shirt and bracelets – he teased: “My loves! I’m excited to announce that I’ve just signed a deal to be the face of Prada’s new ‘street range’. I’m so excited for this chapter,” followed by a laughing emoji.

However, one eagle-eyed fan pointed out that Anton had made a major blunder with the timing of his joke. Responding to his post, they said: “April Fools’ jokes only work when they’re made before midday.”
We’ve all probably fallen for a cheeky gag or two on April 1 in the past. However, according to tradition, people only have until 12pm until they come clean about their jokes – or they themselves become the fool.
The rule can be traced back as early as 1851 in a passage written in a British Journal, which said those who played pranks in the afternoon would be told: “April fool’s gone past, you’re the biggest fool at last.”
Although many theories have been proposed, the exact origin of April Fools’ Day is not exactly known. However, in modern times, major companies, online brands – and famous faces are keen to get in on the act and take advantage of the day.
Anton was joined by a host of celebrities eager to get into the spirit of the annual joke fest as they tried to pull the wool over people’s eyes.
TV host, Lorraine Kelly, tricked people into thinking she was getting a tattoo of her granddaughter’s name live on her show today.
The Scottish star, 65, revealed she had always wanted a tattoo, but wanted it to be meaningful, as she opted for her granddaughter Billie’s name on her arm.
Before her show kicked off, Lorraine was inked up by artist Glenn, but fans were left eagerly waiting until the end of the programme before she revealed the results.
As the unveiling finally arrived, Lorraine pulled off the covering on her upper arm, revealing a garish purple tattoo with Billie’s name and footprints. However, it wasn’t until the host chatted to Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley to discuss what’s coming up on This Morning that they noticed an error. Billie, was actually spelt Billy.
Upon noticing the error, Lorraine stormed off set during the end of her April Fools show, announcing she was “done.”
However, fans quickly twigged that the team had played an April Fools’ prank on viewers. Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter one fan penned: “Terrible April Fools’ joke, Lorraine. you can see it’s been drawn on,” alongside a laughing emoji.
Another said: “Obvs it’s not a real tattoo. It’s fake on April Fools, as a third mused: “I forgot it was April Fools’ day. I was gonna say, it looks s**t!”
