Strictly Come Dancing star Sarah Hadland has given fans a glimpse into the quirky home she shares with her daughter and pet cat Percy
Strictly Come Dancing star Sarah Hadland is one of the favourites to win this year’s series with pro dancer partner Vito Coppola.
But off-screen, the 53-year-old – who is best known for starring in BBC comedy Miranda – lives a quiet life in a leafy corner of southeast London. This is where the actress bought a quirky Victorian two-bedroom coach house a few years ago in trendy Blackheath.
What was once a former stable is now a chic home that she shares with her daughter – whose name and age she has never revealed – and their pet cat, Percy. While Sarah is careful not to share any pics of her daughter, who she recently dedicated one of her dances to, she has given fans a glimpse inside the plush property through snaps on social media.
Posting for pics with pals for her raucous 50th birthday celebrations, Sarah’s stylish kitchen was the backdrop. And it seems she likes a monochrome look as the dark kitchen cupboards and worktops contrast with the white tiles on the floor and walls, as well as a white bookcase shelf. While in the middle of the room, there is a large wooden bench table with stool seats, perfect for entertaining.
Another snap shows her getting ready for a night out at a theatre awards. As she snapped a selfie in a black midi dress and heels before leaving the house, she showed off her chic hallway, which again has white walls. A big mirror can be seen in the background and Victorian tiles cover the floor.
Then there was the time that her dance partner Vito met her pet cat, Percy. He shared snaps of himself cuddling up to the cute ginger mog and captioned the picture: “Finally I met Percy and I love him. It took about half an hour to meet each other, but at the end we had our bond. I just love pets and all the animals on this planet. I think that they are better than us and they can definitely feel when people love them.”
Speaking to The Times back in 2019, Sarah shared how she found her unusual home – and how she didn’t think she would ever be able to move to the area as she thought she couldn’t afford it.
She shared: “I found my house while traipsing behind my dad, telling him, ‘Don’t be ridiculous, I’ll never be able to afford Blackheath.’ We promptly came across this house. I am attracted to quirky buildings. The house was originally a stable – I have photos of it in the 1980s, with barn doors.”
Explaining why she loves the area, she said there is a farmer’s market and an annual street party. And even though it’s in London, Sarah ‘loves the village feel’.
Since she moved in, Sarah has added an extra bedroom and bathroom on a new floor – and home for her is all about having a great bath, which means freestanding and luxurious. She added: “I renovated in stages. The house is in a conservation area, so the brick gables had to be kept. An architect suggested a ‘modern intervention’ and the new front and rear facades are mainly glass.”
But her favourite room in the house is her bedroom, which also has a bath in it. She added: “I always thought the height of luxury would be to have a bath in my bedroom, and now I do. The balcony is crammed with plants and flowers. I have enough fur throws to film an episode of Game of Thrones. The perfect end to a day is getting out of the bath and straight into bed – but I have to take a billion cushions off the bed first.”
