The fast food giants have announced a limited edition Big Breakwich Spud to aid drowsy students during their opening weeks of university
With Freshers’ season underway, students may be looking for ways to aid their undoubted hangovers. Subway claims to have the answer – a full English fry-up inside a jacket potato.
Research from the fast food giant has revealed Gen Z’s favourite morning meals after a night out are fry-ups (40%) and jacket potatoes (22%).
Subway have combined the two to unleash the ‘Big Breakwich Spud’ in time for Freshers’ season and they’ll be handed out for free at universities across the UK. The morning-after munchies will be kept at bay with eggs, sausage, beans, hash browns, ketchup and melted cheese stuffed inside the monster breakfast potatoes.
The breakfast spud, available between October 13 and November 7 at campuses across the UK, has been launched as part of the new Spudway jacket potato range.
The creation has been unleashed as a Subway study revealed a whopping 91% of Brits admit to finding sanctuary in comforting carbs, as 77% of Brits crave a jacket spud after a night out.
More than half (58%) of 18-24-year-olds claim they would opt for a Full English on top of a jacket potato over a traditional fry-up for their post-party recovery.
A queasy 87% of Gen Z admit they’ve skipped breakfast entirely after a night out because they ‘couldn’t face cooking’ while almost a third (30%) of 18-24-year-olds rely on a full English to ease a sore head.
Of the 2,000 Brits quizzed, a whopping 78% of Brits claim the smell of a jacket potato alone would instantly make them feel better after a night out.

The Spudway national launch last month is said to have contributed to incremental sales growth for Subway’s franchisees, an uplift in traffic and strong engagement across digital and third-party delivery platforms.
Enjoyed solo or as part of a meal deal, which includes a spud, drink, plus crisps or cookie, guests can choose from British staples like Cheese & Beans or Tuna Mayonnaise.
They can even opt for Subway icons such as Chicken Tikka and Meatball Marinara or turn any Sub into a spud using the wide variety of ingredients available in-store.
