Anne Russell, the TikTok cleaning sensation, has come through with an ‘easy’ solution for those ‘unsightly’ grey marks on dinner plates after they have been used over time

Are you tired of those ‘unsightly’ grey marks on your plates? Anne Russell, a TikTok cleaning guru, has revealed a simple hack to make your dinnerware look as good as new.

Many people think their plates are ruined for good when they spot those grey streaks. But the cleaning expert assures there’s a straightforward fix for this common issue.

Those grey lines aren’t scratches at all; they’re metal marks left by cutlery, and with a bit of elbow grease and the right products, you can wipe them away.

Anne shared a snap on her TikTok showing a plate with these grey smudges, saying: “See those grey marks in the middle of the plate? You often see those. That looks like an IKEA plate, they’re not shiny, but you do see them on other plates.”, reports Wales Online.

“They are unsightly, and they are very easy to remove. They are marks from your cutlery, where your cutlery has acted like a crayon.”

So, how can you get rid of those stubborn marks?

Anne recommends trying out Bar Keepers Friend Original Powder, which is a multi-purpose cleaner that “cleans, restores and polishes various surfaces”. She also suggests using “a little bit of Cif” cream with “on a sponge”, or Vim Clorex Powder for its “extra whitening” scouring power.

Her tip: “Scouring powder. Anything like that. Damp sponge. On there. Good scrub.”

Anne’s guidance took her social media followers by storm, with many believing they had irreparably scratched their plates. One follower exclaimed in disbelief: “I thought the knife was scratching up the surface, thought I’d have to just live with scratched plates.”

Another social media user stumbled upon a revelation, admitting: “I never knew we could remove those,” while yet another learned a lesson, saying: “I just learnt something, I always assumed the plate was scratched.”

One other great but little known hack is how to get sticker residue off glass – and you can do it with one common cooking item. We’ve all been there – you snag a shiny new item from the store, only to spend ages wrestling with a stubborn sticker. The gooey mess left behind is enough to drive anyone up the wall, whether it’s a price tag on a fresh book, labels on pristine glass jars, or those glaring discount stickers on your latest kitchenware.

But fret not, as cleaning buffs on social media have let slip a simple solution to banish that sticky nightmare without losing your cool. They swear by an everyday pantry staple that’s likely sitting in your kitchen right now.

Forget the white vinegar, your go-to for virtually every other cleaning conundrum. This time, the secret weapon against adhesive residue is none other than humble vegetable oil, which can be nabbed for a mere £2 at most grocery stores, assuming it’s not already in your cupboard.
