Supermarket issues urgent ‘possible health risk’ alert over teatime food

By staff18 October 2025No Comments2 Mins Read

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) said on Saturday that the supermarket had issued the notice due to an undeclared ingredient

13:47, 18 Oct 2025Updated 13:48, 18 Oct 2025

Aldi is withdrawing a dinner favourite from shelves as it poses a potential health hazard for certain shoppers. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) announced on Saturday that the budget retailer had issued the alert after discovering some of its steaks contained an undeclared ingredient on the packaging.

The Ashfields 30 Day Matured Thin Cut Beef Steaks includes milk, but this isn’t indicated on the wrapper.

The FSA explained: “This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents. This is due to a packaging error.”

The particular packets in question are 360g in weight and carry a use-by date of October 26, 2025.

The FSA continued: “Aldi is recalling the above product from customers and has been advised to contact the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall. The company has also issued a point-of-sale notice to its customers. These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.

“If you have bought the above product and have an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents, do not eat it. Instead return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund. For more information, please visit https://help.aldi.co.uk/s/ or call customer services on 0800 042 0800.”

About allergy alerts

The FSA explained: “Sometimes there will be a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold. Then it might be ‘withdrawn’ (taken off the shelves) or ‘recalled’ (when customers are asked to return the product). Sometimes foods have to be withdrawn or recalled if there is a risk to consumers because the allergy labelling is missing or incorrect or if there is any other food allergy risk. When there is a food allergy risk, the FSA will issue an Allergy Alert.”
