Surfshark VPN now costs £1.59 as summer sale drops price

Cybersecurity brand Surfshark has slashed the price of its VPN (Virtual Private Network) plans in time for travellers heading off on their summer holidays. A VPN ensures data is kept private and secure, no matter where someone is in the world.

It also unblocks UK-specific websites and services such as BBC iPlayer, ensuring travellers don’t miss out on their favourite shows or sporting action due to tracking or censorship issues. A VPN safeguards user privacy by encrypting data from devices such as laptops and smartphones.

Surfshark has more than 3,200 servers located in 100 countries that the VPN can use to change a device’s IP address to anywhere in the world. This includes the US, UK, Australia and in Europe.

The cheapest plan is the Surfshark Starter, which currently has an 87% discount. It now costs £1.59 a month, totalling £42.93 for the first 27 months, a huge reduction from the usual £331.83 cost.

This plan includes a secure VPN, ad and cookie pop-up blockers, a constantly changing IP address, and can be used on unlimited devices at the same time. This package also comes with a bonus three-month period.

Surfshark has slashed the price of its VPN plans.

It’s worth noting that the Surfshark Starter plan does not include antivirus protection. Travellers looking for a VPN that includes this will want to check out the Surfshark One plan.

This package costs £1.99 a month, totalling £53.73 over a 27-month period. This is significantly cheaper than the usual £369.63 price tag and includes antivirus, alert, search and alternative ID services.

This package can prevent ad companies and bots from tracking online activity and detect and remove viruses and malware in real time. Plus, it will send alerts if an email address appears in breached online databases.

There are other VPN options on the market, including NordVPN that offers more than double the number of servers when compared to Surfshark. However, this comes at a higher cost, with its Basic plan priced at £2.39 per month.

Another alternative is ExpressVPN which is said to be easier to use than other services, but it’s also more expensive for its 24-month plan. Daily Express tech writer Chris Hall compared the three services and was impressed overall with Surfshark for its ‘great value’, plus the ability to use it across several devices.

Chris explained: “Surfshark offers great value for money, and that’s one of the big attractions. It’s actually owned by the people behind NordVPN, but this is their budget offering, not that the features are lacking.

“There are apps for a wide range of devices, but Surfshark doesn’t put a limit on the number of devices on the same contract, so you can sign in across all your devices, making sure your whole family is protected.”

It’s worth noting that Chris highlights a slight downside: “Surfshark has fewer servers than some of its rivals and can sometimes be a little slower, but unless you’re moving huge amounts of data around, that’s unlikely to be a problem.”

Surfshark boasts an impressive overall rating of 4.5 out of five from over 26,000 Trustpilot reviewers. One happy customer wrote: “The VPN works flawlessly, is easy to use and has good value.”

Another Surfshark user noted: “Since using Surfshark, my mobile works much slower and has trouble loading and using some websites.”

However, another buyer left a five-star review: “Easy to use, but still have not used it to its full potential. Have had no issues with it and have been happy.”
