Reaching 100 years old may seem like an impossible dream – let alone surpassing it. But one expert believes he might live to an ambitious age of 120, thanks to his healthy lifestyle.
Ramon Vila-Rovira, a surgeon at the Teknon Medical Centre in Barcelona, doesn’t smoke or drink, exercises regularly and always tries to get a good night’s rest. Now 76, he even asserts that reaching 500 isn’t too far off either, due technologies like artificial intelligence.
“Why 120? Because until now I don’t know anyone who has lived longer than that,” he said, according to Mundo Deportivo. “If I could, I would live 200 years. Of course, not in a hospital. Not in pain.”
As of now, the oldest verified person to have ever lived is Jeanne Louise Calment. Born on February 1875, Jeanne reached 122 years and 164 days in age before passing away on August 4, 1997.
Like Ramon, she too maintained numerous healthy habits, including regular cycling, which she stopped at 100 years old. Though, perhaps unexpectedly, the Frenchwoman also smoked cigarettes for a staggering 96 years and even ate almost 1kg of chocolate every week.
During his interview, Ramon added: “I try to take good care of myself. The more you take care of yourself, the longer your life expectancy is.” Ramon’s thoughts come as Kayla Barnes-Lentz recently told the Mirror that she too hopes to live past 100 years old.
The 34-year-old from Los Angeles claimed she’d already slashed her biological age by 10 years, thanks to sheer discipline and various ‘life extension’ measures. While rigorous teeth-cleaning, cold showers and an early workout are perhaps among her more common habits, she also has an in-house medical clinic, a hyperbaric oxygen chamber and a team on-hand to help with any concerns.
“Initially, my friends and family thought it was a little intense,” she said in a previous exclusive interview. “I remember the first time that my mum saw me with a CGM – blood glucose monitor.
“She was concerned and confused. I also hadn’t eaten family meals in years because of my protocols, and I don’t go out to eat with friends – instead I have them over for a healthy dinner – and I don’t go out drinking or stay out late…
“The first markers that I am concerned with are my blood labs and gut and toxin testing because by optimising those labs, I stave off chronic disease in the future, extending my health span, but I have also taken bio age tests in the past and it shows about a 10-year reduction in [biological] age.
“…But at this point, it has been normalised, and my family and friends respect that I am being true to myself and they have gotten healthier as well.”
