Approximately 10 people were fatally gunned down with an automatic weapon at Rigberska School in central Sweden this morning – with terrifying footage showing the moment shots were fired
This is the terrifying moment a gunman roams around a school corridor in Sweden and fires shots as screaming onlookers flee for safety.
Approximately 10 people were fatally gunned down with an automatic weapon at Rigberska School in Örebro, in central Sweden this morning. The adult education centre went into lockdown after witnesses reported hearing “bangs, probably gunfire” as the school was evacuated.
Shocking new footage taken at the time of the incident shows the armed perpetrator appearing to bend down slightly to get a better view into one of the building’s rooms. He then spots a man filming him from outside the building, and charges towards him, causing the man to call out in fear and run away.
In a second clip, a woman films a group of people running along a path next to a children’s playground as loud gunshots blare out. The incident has been branded “the worst mass shooting in Swedish history” by Prime minister Ulf Kristersson, who said his thoughts are with those affected, and their relatives. “We also bear their grief”, Ulf Kristersson added.
According to local reports, terrified students and staff trapped inside sent text messages to loved ones, with one staff member texting “I love you”. Swedish Police later revealed that approximately 10 people had been killed, including the gunman himself.
The force said this evening: “About ten people have been killed in the incident. We are currently working on identification. The total number of injured is currently unclear.” At a police press conference held at 6pm local time, the force also confirmed the shooter is among the dead.
The perpetrator, reportedly aged 35, is believed to have acted alone during the incident. Swedish Police said: “During the afternoon, several investigative measures connected to the case have been carried out at various addresses in Örebro. Work at the crime scene continues, including technical personnel.
“At present, the police believe that the perpetrator acted alone, but we cannot rule out more perpetrators connected to the incident. Our view is that the perpetrator is one of the dead people.”
King Carl XVI Gustaf also sent his condolences to those affected in a statement released this evening. The statement read: “It is with sadness and dismay that my family and I have received the information about the terrible atrocity in Örebro. We send our condolences tonight to the families and friends of the deceased. Our thoughts at this time also go to the injured and their relatives, as well as to others affected.
“My family and I would like to express our great appreciation for the police, rescue and medical personnel who worked intensively to save and protect human lives on this dark day.”
