A teacher has shared a list of the ‘worst’ twin names she’s ever come across – and parents are discuss whether they’ve come across even worse names throughout the years
A teacher has criticised parents for giving their children overly unusual names that could negatively impact their child’s future. The woman, who works in education across the country, has compiled a spreadsheet of the worst names she encounters at various schools.
She claims her list now spans over 474 rows – and twin names are among some of the most ‘offensive’ monikers on there. Taking to Reddit’s tragedeigh thread, a term used online to describe a name that has been “deliberately misspelled or completely made up to appear more unique than it actually is”, she said: “I do my best to research names to make sure they’re actually tragedeighs instead of just unusual choices.”
The list includes:
- Heaven and Nevaeh
- Divine and Devorn
- Joseph, Jonah, Jolannah, and Ja’nia (starts standard, ends… confusingly)
- Bryseon and Bryson
- Ayreonna and Ayreon
- Ari’Elle and Ari’Anna
- A’Pavion and A’Ravion
- Leeus and Leea
- Chaseion and Chanceion
- Mijoy and Milove
- A’Myrha and Ah’Ziyha
- A’Jani and A’June’t
- Chace-Love and Chad-Love and Chandler-Love
- Qu-Ann and Qu-Anna
- Bra’Niya and Sha’Niya
- Prince Za’mar and Princess-Lauryn
Commenting on her post, one user said: “Those are so awful. Why? Besides sounding ridiculous, what’s with all the pairings that are almost the same name (like Bryson and Bryseon) wouldn’t there be confusion everywhere? Why would you want your children to have nearly the same horrifyingly bad names?”.
Another user added: “I work in child welfare and sibsets with very similar names is so common. I had a case recently where I had to colour code the kids names because they were so similar and I kept mixing them up.”
A third user said: “I am wondering if Chace-Love, Chad-Love, and Chandler-Love are supposed to be feminised versions of the boy names or if they’re all boys… The spelling for Chace hurts my brain.”
One more user added: “Why do people do this? I had two sets of twins recently. Jouree and Journee. Asher and Ashir.
“I know Asher and Ashir aren’t tragedeighs, but giving your identical twins names that are 1 letter apart is asking for chaos.”
Another user said: “As a twin mum, I’ll never understand. They are two separate people, why try to make them into one.”
A final user added: “We had twins last year that were Arriahna and Auvah. Thought those were bad, but there were two brothers in the same grade with the same name? Same mum, different dads, but the were Treyvon and Treyven. Both went but Trey. Why?”.
