Teenager mauled to death by bear made final harrowing call to mum

By staff31 October 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

The teenager was on a summer walk with her stepdad when they were attacked by a number of wild bears – and her mother heard the whole thing while on the phone to her

A teenager’s idyllic day out with her stepfather turned into a horrifying ordeal when she was mauled to death by a bear.

Olga Moskalyova, 19, was enjoying a summer stroll in Siberia, Russia, with her stepdad, Igor Tsyganenkov, when their peaceful day by the river took a terrifying turn as they encountered a savage beast. The young woman was on the phone to her mother, Tatiana, when they were set upon by a group of wild bears, and her mum heard the entire chilling incident unfold.

Olga called her mum in panic, describing the scene, before the phone was snatched from her hand and she was tragically never seen or heard from again. Firstly, Olga watched in horror as the bear attacked her stepfather, then the mother bear pursued her for 70 yards before catching her leg.

During the brutal attack, she managed to call her mother several times to alert her. Reportedly, she screamed: “Mum, the bear is eating me! Mum, it’s such agony. Mum, help!”

At first, Tatina, on the other end of the line, thought it was a prank, but once she heard the growling and gnawing sounds, she realised the grim reality. She said: “But then I heard the real horror and pain in Olga’s voice and the sounds of a bear growling and chewing.”

She said she could have “died then and there from shock”. Her daughter kept ringing her until an hour later, she made her final call, uttering heartbreaking last words.

Tatina shared her last words: “Mum, it’s not hurting any more. I don’t feel the pain. Forgive me for everything; I love you so much.” Devastated and in disbelief at what had just happened to her child, Olga’s mum contacted the police, who arrived at the gruesome scene 90 minutes later.

Six hunters were dispatched to hunt down and kill the bears, but when they were found the creatures they were still allegedly feeding on the teenager’s lifeless body. Before her sudden and terrifying death, Olgor was considered a “fun, warm and friendly” young girl, as described by her mother, who had her whole life ahead of her.

Her mother said: “She had graduated from music school, and just days before the bear attack, she got her driving licence.” Both Olga and her stepfather, who died alongside her, were laid to rest on the same day in 2011.

Bear attacks are believed to be increasingly common in Russia, particularly in wildlife areas where they are searching for food and feel humans are invading their territory.
