Terry Wogan’s son furiously hits out as family home has ‘no interest’ on market

Sir Terry Wogan’s youngest son Mark has hit out at Chancellor Rachel Reeves, claiming she is ‘killing off the housing market’ after being unable to sell his parents £3.75 million mansion

The former family home of beloved broadcaster Sir Terry Wogan has gone on the market after the death of his wife, Lady Helen, in November 2024. However, the sprawling mansion hasn’t been viewed by anyone since it went up for sale.

Sir Terry and Lady Helen, who bought the seven-bedroom Edwardian property in 1975, raised their children there during Terry’s long tenure on BBC Radio 2’s Wake Up to Wogan, which ran from 1993 to 2009.

Now listed at £3.75 million, the 6,500-square-foot home in Taplow, Buckinghamshire, features five reception rooms, a utility room, a pantry, ensuite bedrooms, and striking views of Windsor Castle. The landscaped gardens also include a tennis court and a swimming pool, while fast rail links put Paddington Station just 30 minutes away.

Reflecting on the house and its memories, Terry’s son Mark, 51, said: “We’re a close family, so the kitchen was central to everything. Mum was a fantastic cook. Eating and talking around a table was a big part of growing up in the house.”

He added: “We’d also have some lovely long lunches on the terrace in the summer overlooking mum’s beloved garden. It’s a thing of beauty. We’ll miss the house very much. But it’ll make someone a great place to raise a family.”

Despite the incredible home being up for sale, it has been reported that Wogan’s mansion has not even had one viewer since going on the market – much to the disappointment of his son Mark and his siblings.

Speaking about the situation surrounding the sale of the property, Mark blamed Chancellor Rachel Reeves and her tax plans for “killing off the housing market.”

During an appearance on Plank of the Week with Mike Graham on TalkTV, Mark, who is the youngest son of the late Sir Terry Wogan, spoke candidly about the family’s struggle to sell their childhood home following the death of his mother in 2024.

“It’s interesting how you say Rachel Reeves is killing off the housing market. She’s killed it already,” he claimed.

Mark said there’s been zero interest in the iconic property as he added: “You’d think someone would come round, even just out of interest, thinking, ‘Oh, I’d quite like to go round and see Terry Wogan’s house.’

“But no one’s come to see it. No one, not one single person. That’s how dead the economy is. Calling the property ‘a steal,’ he added: “I’ll show you around.”

Children In Need host Wogan died of cancer at 77 in January 2016. Nine years later, his wife Helen died, leaving behind an estate valued at £5 million.

Her will included £100,000 trusts for each of her five grandchildren, accessible when they turn 25. The rest of her wealth and belongings were divided among their three surviving children.

The couple endured tragedy early in their marriage, losing their first child, Vanessa, to a heart condition shortly after her birth in 1966.

The Mirror has approached Rachel Reeves’ representatives for comment on this story.
