Tesco launches huge recruitment drive with 28,500 new jobs across the UK

The roles are available now across different jobs and shifts

Supermarket giant Tesco is taking on more than 28,500 temporary staff across the UK this year to support shoppers during the hectic Christmas rush. The roles will primarily be based in Tesco’s Superstores and Extra outlets, offering early morning, daytime or evening shifts so potential candidates can find something that suits their schedule.

Ela Golab, Tesco Group people services director, said: “We’re excited to be recruiting festive colleagues to help make it a season to remember for our customers. With the busy Christmas period ahead, we are looking for people who can bring warmth, enthusiasm and a helpful service to every shopping trip.

“The jobs will range from serving customers and stocking shelves, to picking orders for home delivery. No day is ever the same, and festive colleagues will be able to feel the impact they make on every shift, as they send customers home with a smile. What’s more, no experience is necessary – just the right attitude.”

Fresh food team manager Emma Richardson Brown from Tesco’s Gainsborough branch in Lincolnshire is one person who seized such an opportunity. Emma started as a festive worker in the frozen food section at her local shop in November 2023.

The determined employee was eager to advance her Tesco career, and when a shift leader position became available in January 2024, she put herself forward and landed the job. In February 2025, she joined an options management scheme and began a team manager placement.

Emma has since climbed the ranks to become the fresh food team manager at the store.

Emma said: “I love working for Tesco, as every day is different with a new set of challenges. It’s great to work as part of a fantastic team and there’s a culture, mainly driven by our store manager, Richard.

“You can be yourself and bring your own personality to work and have a bit of fun. Throughout my journey I have had fantastic support from everybody in the store team and would recommend to anybody that wants to progress within Tesco to set your goals high and your hard work and dedication will be rewarded. Good luck to everybody applying.”
