The flavour combination has raised quite a few eyebrows – but some can’t wait to tuck in
Many people have been left divided over the latest festive treats that are heading to supermarkets very soon due to their unusual flavour and texture combinations. Some can’t wait one more second to try them, while others will gladly leave them on the shop shelves.
Certain customers might think it’s still too early to mention Christmas. But, others are completely here for the wild and wonderful creations that brands are coming up with in advance to make the upcoming festive season interesting.
With so much associated with the celebration, companies have endless possibilities to test out – but they won’t always be major hits. One that is just days away from being released to the public has already started causing a major divide.
Posting on Instagram, the @newfoospottersuk account shared some festive items that will soon be available to buy in Tesco stores across the country. Both products already exist but have been given a sweet seasonal flavour twist that has fans split on whether they will be a flop or not.
In the post, the caption reads: “NEW GINGERBREAD DORITOS & PEPSI IN TESCO FROM THURSDAY.” Shoppers should keep an eye out for the items which, according to the social media account, should be available from October 2.
One unimpressed person said: “I love Pepsi and I love gingerbread. The idea of this, however, makes me want to heave!” Another wrote: “Gingerbread Doritos sound illegal!” A third posted: “Interesting. Will have to try them!”
One more said: “This sounds and looks amazing!” Someone else put: “Kinda feel like the Pepsi will be banging!” But, there was another shopper who claimed: “[I’m] not sure how I feel about this!”
A Pepsi fan pointed out that the fizzy drink brand has already done something very similar in the past. They said: “The ginger Pepsi was incredible and I don’t understand why they stopped it. If it’s a rebranded version of that, I’m all over it.”
Another Instagram user replied: “Gingerbread Pepsi sounds mega. They did Ginger Pepsi years ago!” And one more shared: “I honestly was a broken woman when they discontinued it. I even tried to recreate it!”
Ginger Pepsi was discontinued and has never been available on UK shelves again. It first appeared in stores in 2017 as a permanent flavour but was quietly axed in 2021. During this time, it was also apparently available in other parts of the world, such as Jamaica, Canada, and Germany, where it has since been discontinued.
In other shopping news, parents will also scramble to their nearest Aldi and Lidl supermarkets on October 2 —but not for food-related items. Both budget retailers have announced they’ll be competing on that Thursday by releasing the popular wooden toy ranges at the same time.
At the time of writing, it is unclear if the Pepsi and Doritos gingerbread products will be exclusively available in Tesco or if other supermarkets will also carry the items.
