Tesco’s 65p item hailed a game-changer as it makes patio look like new

A savvy gardener has shared his simple trick for removing notoriously tricky and stubborn patio stains- and it will cost you less than £1 to do with no scrubbing required

Gone are the days of scrubbing your patio by hand as this cheap and simple trick will make any garden look brand new. As people start to spend more time in their gardens to make the most of the warm weather – many will start to be sprucing up their outside areas and making them look pretty.

No one wants a grubby patio, and now you can totally transform any dull-looking slabs making them look brand new, all thanks to one keen gardners top tip. He took to the Garden on a Budget Facebook page where he detailed how a simple mix of bleach, water and a pressure washer does the trick, saving you from scubbing on your hands and knees.

The savvy cleaner shared to Facebook: “Just to demonstrate the cheapest and most effective way of cleaning a patio I did my neighbours today so some before and afters……bleach and water left to soak and pressure washed,” and shared before and after photos of his work.

Bleach is just 65p from Tesco, and if you have access to a pressure washer, you can use Scott’s trick to scrub your patio clean. After his post gained lots of attention, fellow Facebook users were quick to ask Scott for tips on the best result. He shared how he left the bleach for one hour to soak and dry before washing it off.

One person asked: “What’s the ratio to bleach and water please?” To which Scott replied: “Fill a bucket and 300 ml of bleach. The key to this is brush it in and let it soak until dry.” However some people said using bleach outside isn’t good for the environment and others asked for some pet friendly alternatives.

Scott answered: “Have done it with washing up liquid too in the past with similar results. Just to break the debris from the surface is all your doing. Bleach merely speeds up the process. Go for Fairy as long as its gets a light scrub and soaks in your good.”

It comes after another keen gardener took to the Mrs Hinch Gardening Tips Facebook group to spill their tried-and-true secrets for banishing these blemishes.

Top of the list is the use of sodium hypochlorite, a powerful concoction known for its lichen-slaying prowess by eliminating the organisms behind those unsightly black spots on the slabs.

“Sodium hypochlorite cleared mine. Sprayed it all over my patio, left it half an hour then just rinsed off. Leave longer if you prefer,” they wrote. While another said: “Sodium hypochlorite from eBay. Just brush on and rinse off after an hour. It will kill any weeds too.”
