Serving up the most amount of amore for your money, Liverpool secured a solid score of 56.60 on the index. The city offers a blend of vibrant culture and historical charm, making it an ideal location for couples seeking an affordable yet romantic experience.
It boasts the second-highest number of affordable 4-star+ hotels, with 603 options providing a luxurious stay without the steep price tag.
With a lively social scene, the city offers the highest number of affordable pubs and bars with 22 different establishments waiting to welcome you as you unwind together. Steeped in rich musical heritage and stunning architecture, Liverpool proves that romance doesn’t have to come with an expensive price tag.
If you want to give the gift of affection for free this February, here are some of the best ways to enjoy the city without spending a penny:
Stroll along the Albert Dock
A walk along the Albert Dock is not just about enjoying the stunning waterfront views but also about soaking up the atmosphere of one of Liverpool’s most iconic landmarks.
The area is brimming with history, as it was the first structure in Britain to be built entirely of cast iron, brick and stone.
Admire the beautiful Victorian architecture and watch the boats drifting along the river or take in some of the museums on the dock like the Merseyside Maritime Museum or Tate Liverpool.
Visit Sefton Park
Sefton Park is a 235-acre green oasis in the heart of Liverpool, offering the perfect setting for a romantic stroll. The park is home to lush greenery, beautiful gardens and a picturesque lake.
You can enjoy a peaceful walk around the lake, or if you’re in the mood to relax, pack a picnic and enjoy it on the grass.
The park is also home to the Palm House, a Victorian glasshouse filled with exotic plants (although there may be a small fee to enter).
Wander through the Baltic Triangle
Liverpool’s Baltic Triangle is a vibrant and creative area full of street art, independent shops and cool cafés.
Perfect for couples who love to explore unique spots, the area has a bohemian vibe with eye-catching murals and art installations on almost every corner.
The Baltic Triangle offers an offbeat romantic escape from the more touristy parts of the city and is an ideal place to just get lost and enjoy each other’s company while discovering some hidden gems.
Sunset at Crosby Beach
Crosby Beach is one of the most romantic spots in Liverpool, particularly when the sun sets over the Irish Sea.
The tranquil beach is home to Antony Gormley’s ‘Another Place’ installation, which consists of 100 life-size statues standing along the shoreline. The sight of these statues against the backdrop of a glowing sunset creates an atmospheric and peaceful setting.
Whether you take a walk along the beach, sit and watch the waves, or take photos of the surreal landscape, Crosby Beach is a fantastic place to spend quality time together.
Walk through the Cavern Quarter
Liverpool’s Cavern Quarter is full of history and charm, making it the perfect place for couples who want to experience a blend of music, culture and nostalgia.
The area is home to the world-famous Cavern Club, where The Beatles played in their early years and the cobbled streets are filled with music echoing from local bars and street performers.
If you’re lucky, you may even catch a live in one of the nearby pubs.
According to the index, Leeds, Newcastle, Cardiff, Birmingham, Sheffield and York also made it into the top 10 best value UK cities for Valentine’s Day this year.
