Pollstar’s annual Voice of Live year-end review found the rockers’ Hackney Diamonds tour was most lucrative

Once you start them up, the Stones will never stop raking in the cash – to the tune of £10million a night. It’s only rock ’n’ roll but Mick Jagger’s fans like it so much that each of the Rolling Stones’ Hackney Diamonds Tour gigs made a fortune.

Sir Mick, 81, Keith Richards, 80, and Ronnie Wood, 77, took £10,345,659 in revenue per night. The wrinkly rockers even eclipsed pop sensation Taylor Swift, 35, in single night takings. Music analysis firm Pollstar’s annual Voice of Live year-end review estimated Taylor raked in £10,332,133 a night on her record-breaking Eras Tour. It took a total of £1.74billion.

Coldplay were third on the list, earning £6,186,482 per gig, although the band’s Music of the Spheres tour sold more tickets than Eras – 10.3 million compared with 10.05 million. Pollstar said the tours “set new benchmarks in the global concert industry”. Editor in Chief Andy Gensler said: “2024 has proven to be a historic year for the live entertainment industry. We saw record-setting revenues, with the top two tours of all time running concurrently.”

Fourth in the takings table was Metallica (£5,924.698), followed by Bruce Springsteen (£4,534,325), P!nk (£4,342.808), Bad Bunny (£3,409,639), Zach Bryan (£3,219,831), Madonna (£2,213,337) and Luis Miguel (£1,833,871).

In another poll, Taylor Swift has been crowned the UK’s undisputed live music queen after her record-breaking Eras tour. Viagogo’s roundup for 2024 found demand from Swifties was 196% higher than for Liam Gallagher at number two. Foo Fighters, Bruce Springstein and PiNK were the 3rd, 4th and 5th top selling artists of the past year.

Meanwhile, UK Coldplay fans collectively rack up a staggering 18.8 million miles travelling to the band’s 13 global shows including Vienna, Budapest, Rome and Munich While Hometown Glory fans of Adele travelled over 2.2 million miles to see the Tottenham-born star’s Munich residency.
