Millions of cups of tea are consumed every morning and most Brits are willing to skip out on other parts of their morning routine in order to have one
Research reveals that Brits collectively consume a staggering 53million cups of tea each morning, and that’s before the clock strikes 9am. But this comes as no surprise given 12% of Brits kick-start their day with a cuppa as soon as they get out of bed.
Over half admit they can’t properly start their day without a cup of tea, some 10% even gulp down three or more cups to jumpstart their morning first flicking the kettle on at around 7.30am.
The study revealed that builder’s tea is the top morning pick (52%), followed by black tea (16%) and green tea (10%). All of these cups amount to an astounding 2,682 million gallons of tea – enough to fill four Olympic-sized swimming pools.
The research pinpointed that over half (59%) can’t properly start their day without a cup of tea. Two thirds confessed they rarely or never miss out on their morning brew, and it seems there’s a solid reason for it.
Over two thirds attribute their increased productivity to tea, and 78% claim it gives them a little lift and morning boost, setting the tone for the day.
The study, commissioned by PG Tips, discovered that more than a third feel refreshed and more alert after their morning tea and confess feeling flat and tired if they miss out on it. For this reason, Eleanor Barker from Lipton hailed it as ‘the hero of British mornings’.
There’s even a range of activities Brits would be willing to skip to ensure they can make some time for a cuppa.
In fact, 37% would happily skip checking the news to fit in a morning tea, while 35% would sacrifice making their bed to savour the hot beverage when short on time.
One in 10 Brits would even skip brushing their teeth just to kick-start their day with a cup of tea, according to the survey.
Interestingly, 41% also depend on tea throughout the day, using it as a reset button to refocus before their next task or activity.
Regardless of their tea preference, Brits spend an average of nearly nine precious minutes each morning savouring their brew, with 59% consciously taking their time to sip leisurely and relish the moment.
