Lysney Crombie, aka the Queen of Clean, has unveiled which cleaning hacks are really worth trying out – including a simple but effective way of cleaning your microwave without scrubbing
This Morning’s cleaning ace Lynsey Crombie has revealed which cleaning hacks really are worth trying out.
With millions of bizarre cleaning tutorials posted on sites like TikTok, it can be hard to sift through what will make your home sparkle and gleam, and what can actually cause damage. Recent trends like the one that encouraged swathes of users to add a bottle of disinfectant in the back of their toilet can actually cause more harm than good.
Lynsey, aka Queen of Clean, has amassed a whopping 130,000 followers online thanks to her tried-and-tested hacks that avoid gimmicky nonsense which could land you with a hefty bill. So, let’s check them out…
Many of Lynsey’s cleaning hacks use natural ingredients, straying away from chemical-filled products that can be dangerous for those with kids and pets. For example, the cleaning ace says to get your microwave sparkling, all you need is a lemon.
Simply cut the fruit in half and pop into a bowl full of water, the microwave on ‘full power for five minutes’. “The lemon releases grease and grim and makes it easy to remove with a damp cloth,” she added – explaining how nasty odours will also be quelled.
Lemon, with a bit of salt sprinkled on the flesh, also makes a great scrub to get your chopping boards looking like new. The fruit’s natural antiseptic properties will eliminate germs while the acid will help buff away any grease and grime. “Then, treat it with coconut oil to keep it in good condition,” she said according to ITV. This concoction also works in the bathroom and will leave your bath and shower screen ‘gleaming’.
In fact, lemon peel and white vinegar makes the perfect multipurpose cleaning mix. The fruit’s skin will disguise the smell as it infuses into the vinegar, so your house won’t smell like a chippy.

If you live in a hard-water area and can’t get rid of limescale in your loo – don’t worry. Lynsey advises pour flat ‘gone-off- Coca Cola down the toilet to remove the mineral build-up. This also helps remove any ‘gunk’ from your sink.
Lastly, if you need to freshen up your stinky rugs, carpets, or door matts – the cleaning pro advises sprinkling over bicarbonate of soda and essential oils over the affected areas. The bicarb will neutralise the smell while the essential oil will leave the house with a gorgeous new scent. Et voila! Your home should be immaculately clean and fresh with just a handful of cheap ingredients that you can pick up from your nearest supermarket.
