As hosepipe bans and water restrictions become the norm across the UK, green-fingered enthusiasts are on the hunt for clever ways to keep their plants thriving whilst cutting back on water usage. Lechuza planters, with their savvy self-watering system and innovative planting substrate, offer the ideal solution.

Lechuza planters utilise an integrated sub-irrigation system that can keep your plants hydrated for up to 12 weeks, significantly reducing the need for daily watering. Particularly useful during periods of drought, this reservoir-based system uses up to 80% less water than traditional pots, making it a game-changer in times of hosepipe bans.

Maintaining outside plants this summer could prove more difficult as millions of people are set to face hosepipe and sprinkler restrictions amid sweltering weather across the UK. Specific water firm customers will not be allowed to use hoses for anything from gardening to filling up paddling pools, as temperatures peaked at 34.7 °C in England last week.

Although South East Water will enforce its hosepipe ban on July 18, Yorkshire Water imposed its rules from yesterday (July 11). Both firms warned that reservoirs had struggled amidst the driest spring in over a century, while demand for water has only surged.

Lechuza planters are the perfect choice during a hosepipe ban. They promise a water-efficient self-watering system, cutting down on the need for regular watering. These planters also come equipped with a visible water level indicator, so you only top up when necessary. What’s more, they’re stylish and robust, making them ideal for patios, balconies, and indoor use.

The planters are made from high-quality, UV—and weather-resistant plastic, which is 100% recyclable. They’re completely shatterproof, making them a reliable and durable pick that’s perfect for any location. The semi-matte surface promises to be easy to clean and stylish in any setting.

The Lechuza Balconera Self-Watering Planter comes in a wide range of shades to best suit your interior or exterior aesthetic. Various size options are also available to best fit your available space and the plants you wish to plant. Prices vary depending on what size and shade you opt to buy, with most options with the measurements L80 W19 H19 cm available for around £45 to £48 on Amazon.

For smaller options, you can find the Lechuza Balconera Window Box Planter at Wayfair for £34.99 or a larger option from B&Q for £53.99.
