Three British men have been arrested in Croatia on suspicion of raping a woman – they could be sentenced for up to ten years in prison following the alleged hotel attack
Three British citizens have been arrested for allegedly raping a woman in Croatia.
The attack is said to have happened at a hotel in the Adriatic port of Split on Tuesday. The victim, who has been identified as a 28-year-old local woman, said the incident occurred between 5am and 7.30am.
Unconfirmed local reports state that the victim managed to free herself and alert a friend. Police were able to respond quickly. One of the men was arrested at the scene, whilst the other two were caught later on at a different location.
She alerted the authorities shortly after the alleged attack took place. Following an interrogation by the State Attorney’s Office, it is believed the men planned out the sexual assault ahead of time, reports GazeTaExpress.
The trio could face up to six months to ten years behind bars following the heinous crime. Two of the men, who are said to be British citizens, are thought to originally be from Kosovo.
If the suspects are found guilty of premeditating the suspected assault, they could be jailed for the maximum length of time. The men are currently spending one month in custody.
Pre-trial detention has been proposed due to concerns that the suspects might try to escape. The judge has accepted the request.
The investigation continues.
