A knifeman launched a 20-second attack on a stranger at a Tube station before stabbing another 13 times as he tried to help.

Nicholas Orlando Green, 36, brutally attacked the men, aged 44 and 42, at Kennington Underground station at about 10.30pm on Wednesday, March 27, last year. Despite viciously attacking the men, Green showed no remorse.

Green was identified by police after they traced his bank card, and he “repeatedly laughed” and lied during police interviews, According to Met Police Detective Chief Inspector Paul Attwell. His victims entered the tube station with a larger group who finished a local dance class.

Moments later, Green carried out a “ferocious an unprovoked attack on the older man,” stabbing him for about 20 seconds. The other man then raced over to put a halt to the attack before Green knocked him down to the ground and knifed him 13 times.

Green was identified as the attacker and was arrested the next day after British Transport Police officers located the bank card he used to tap into the station as well as the trainers he wore during the attack. He was found guilty of two counts of grievous bodily harm at Inner London Crown Court on Monday, September 1.

He was found not guilty of two counts of attempted murder and one count of sexual assault. Green is being held in custody and is due to be sentenced at the same court in early December.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Attwell said: “This was a truly horrific and unprovoked attack that left two innocent men with life-altering physical and psychological injuries that they continue to recover from.

“Green’s torrent of violence that day has never been satisfactorily explained. During police interviews Green repeatedly laughed, lied, argued and tried to frustrate our investigation as much as he could, but our officers worked tirelessly to gather crucial evidence that helped the jury see through his lies and bring him to justice.

“I hope this outcome brings some measure of justice and reassurance to the victims and their loved ones. We will stop at nothing to ensure violent offenders like Green are held to account and removed from the streets.”

Anyone who is the victim of or witness to an offence on the tube or railway network should text 61016 or call 0800 40 50 40. In an emergency always call 999.
