If you own an Android phone, it might soon be time to ditch it and try something totally new. US technology giant Qualcomm has just lifted the lid on its latest and greatest processor, which will offer a serious boost to future flagship phones. For those not in the know, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chips power many of the world’s most well-known Android devices including those made by Sony, Honor and Samsung.

Now, something even better is coming soon, which will mean those upgrading will get faster performance, longer battery life and smarter AI.

In fact, Qualcomm is boasting that its refreshed Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 offers “the fastest mobile CPU in the world ” and delivers “massive upgrades and experiences that users want today.”

This Gen 5 superbrain now replaces the current Snapdragon 8 Elite found in phones such as Samsung’s Galaxy S25 range.

When the new processor arrives in devices, users can expect to see lightning-fast multitasking, seamless switching between favourite apps and improved game play with quicker performance and power efficiency.

When playing top titles, graphics should also look more fluid and use up less battery life.

There’s also good news for those who like making movies on their phones. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is the world’s first mobile platform to record in Advanced Professional Video (APV) codec. This enables professional-level video production for a more polished and Hollywood-style look to home movies.

Other features enabled by this chip include improved sound, longer battery life, quicker charging and more advance AI that should makes things feel far more intelligent.

It also works togther with the latest X85 5G Modem to offers download speeds of up to 12.6Gbps all whilst using less battery life. At that rapid rate it would take seconds to download an HD movie onto devices.

“With Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, you are at the centre of your mobile experience. It enables personalised AI agents to see what you see, hear what you hear and think with you in real time,” said Chris Patrick, senior vice president and general manager of mobile handset, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. “Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 pushes the boundaries of personal AI, allowing you to experience the future of mobile technology today.”

So, which phones will get the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5?

There’s no word on exact phones, but it has been confirmed that flagship call makers from Honor, iQOO, Nubia, OnePlus, OPPO, POCO, realme, REDMI, RedMagic, ROG, Samsung, Sony, vivo, Xiaomi and ZTE. New devices will be launched in the coming days.
