Coronation Street actress Tina O’Brien has praised her daughter, Scarlett Thomas’ singing abilities after the teen skipped her GCSEs in order to focus on a music career
Tina O’Brien has heaped praise on her daughter Scarlett Thomas over her singing voice after the teen skipped her GCSEs to pursue a career music. The Coronation Street star took to her Instagram to share a video of Scarlett, 16, singing a version of Tate McRae’s Tit For Tat.
In the caption, Tina, 42, wrote: “Couldn’t be prouder of Scarlett. Her voice gives me goosebumps she makes me so emotional. So much power and heart in one beautiful little human. Watching her grow into her own sound is pure magic.”
Scarlett regularly shares videos on TikTok singing and has stated before that she wants to follow in the footsteps of her famous family and work in showbiz. She decided to skip taking her exams after embarking upon an acting career.
She first appeared on TV in 2023 in BBC drama Waterloo Road, where she played Izzy – the daughter of her real-life uncle, Adam Thomas. Scarlett’s famous family includes dad Ryan, who is also a Corrie star, while her other uncle, Scott Thomas, starred on Love Island.
But while her career is taking off, Ryan has previously insisted that Scarlett isn’t getting a “free ride” because she is a “nepo baby.” Scarlett also has a substantial following on social media and is predicted to earn as much as £2million before she turns 18.
A recent TikTok she shared had almost three million views, and she has 204,000 followers on the app as well as 142,000 fans over on Instagram. She also regularly appears on the social media pages of her famous family members, including Ryan’s former TOWIE star fiancée Lucy Mecklenburgh.
PR expert Lynn Carratt told The Sun: “It’s clear they’re a close-knit family who understand how to use social media effectively to build their careers. They capitalise on TikTok trends, and each member is talented in their own right.” She added: “Teddy is clearly talented, and it seems the children in the family will follow in their fathers’ footsteps.
“Scarlett often appears in videos with her dad and uncles, showcasing her singing and acting skills. With both parents in TV, their talent has clearly rubbed off on Scarlett. She comes across as a confident and likeable girl who is close to her family.”
She also explained how the “Thomas family videos are strategically leveraging each other’s personalities and showcasing their talents to millions daily.”
Ryan previously defended how Scarlett has embarked on a career in entertainment saying: “Everyone thinks she gets a lift up from family, getting on Waterloo Road.
“But she worked damn hard to get that job, and people need to recognise that she’s a talented girl – she’s up against other people and she’s not getting a free ride.”
He added: “She has to go through the same process as everyone else – it was between her and somebody else. It wasn’t like, ‘This is a Thomas, she’s going to get this job’.”
