Cabins come in a variety of different sizes and classes – but workers aren’t always given a taste of luxury, as one dancer has shown
A professional dancer has shown the not-so glamorous side to living on a cruise ship. On the surface, huge cruise-liners are the picture of luxury. With everything from an on-deck water park to casino and a slew of designer shops, these mega ships don’t come cheap – and allow holidaymakers to travel across some of the most beautiful destinations on Earth without the hassle of booking multiple flights.
But, working on a cruise doesn’t mean you’ll be waking up to a stunning sea-view every morning on a cosy double bed. In fact, you’d need to expect quite the opposite…
Ella, who is in Mamma Mia the musical for Royal Caribbean’s famous Allure of the Seas cruise ship, shocked the internet after giving a tour of her secret cabin. “I share this cabin with my friend Samara, who is also in the cast and a fellow dancer,” she said in a TikTok video – panning around a tiny student-looking room with a bunkbed. Despite efforts to make the cabin look ‘cosy’ with photos of friends and family on the wall and cuddly toys on her bed – the size of the room is drastically different to what tourists will receive. “This is our sunrise alarm clock, which is an absolute lifesaver because we don’t have a pothole so we never see natural light,” Ella added: “And this turns itself on in the morning, so we at least don’t wake up in the pitch black everyday.”

Of course, the cabin isn’t all doom and gloom, and does feature a little ‘coffee corner’ as well as a mini-fridge and wardrobe space. There’s also a private bathroom with a shower and a TV with ‘loads of films and TV shows to choose from’. In spite of having no windows, Ella says she ‘loves’ the ‘vibes’ of her shared space. However, some viewers were shocked by the tour and claimed they couldn’t live in such conditions. “You should definitely get your own little cabin even if it’s really small,” one person fumed. “That’s zero privacy.”
Another wrote: “No windows? I would leave or complain.” A third added: “I’d be so claustrophobic,” while a fourth compared it to a ‘prison cell’. Others seemed to love the cabin, with one user branding it ‘so cute’. “Wowww! Looks so cozy! Feels like home,” another wrote. A third person hailed: “Screamingggg this is so cute, I want to come over!”
