Originally designed as an RAF base in the Second World War, Humberside Airport has added a popular Spanish island to its offerings this year – along with its regular routes
One of the UK’s smallest airports has added a new destination to its slim offerings in time for the summer holidays. Once dubbed as the quietest airport in the country, Humberside only welcomed 136,976 visitors back in 2023 – which feels like nothing when you compare it to the 79,180,434 tourists that passed through London Heathrow in the same year.
Located just off the main A18 trunk road in Kirmington, North Lincolnshire, Humberside Airport is a convenient base for those living in Scunthorpe, Hull, Lincoln and the surrounding areas. Originally a Royal Air Force station during World War 2, Humberside was converted into a civilian airport in 1974 – and offers both domestic and international flights. Its departure boards aren’t as busy compared to nearby hubs like Leeds Bradford and East Midlands, but the airport is expanding its routes this year with regular flights to a Spanish hotspot.
According to Hull Live, the airport will offer twice-weekly trips between May and October to Palma, Majorca. Dubbed the ‘King of the Balearics’, the island is a firm favourite amongst Brits thanks to its white beaches, sandy coves, crystal clear waters and cheap booze. Party-mad tourists should flock to the infamous night-club-riddled streets of Magaluf, while those desperate for a laid-back holiday in the sun will appreciate the tranquility of Palma Nova.
“The flights will be on a Tuesday and a Saturday, offering the option for short breaks and 10 and 11-day holidays, in addition to the 7 and 14-day options already offered,” Humberside Airport explained. “The friendly HAT team is based within the airport terminal and has a wealth of travel knowledge to help you choose the right holiday.”
