From summer 2025, Brits will be able to fly direct from Newcastle Airport to the much-loved city of Berlin, in Germany, with flights costing as low as £44.99 per way
A tiny UK airport will be adding flights to a European capital loved by Brits from summer 2025.
From May 1 2025, Eurowings will be operating direct flights from Newcastle Airport to Berlin, in Germany, every Thursday and Sunday.
As Lufthansa Group’s value airline, Eurowings already serves the North East of England with year-round flights to Düsseldorf, in Germany, and recently celebrated 10 years of flying from Newcastle Airport.
The new service will also be relatively cheap costing from just £44.99.
In addition, it will be the only regular, direct flight to Berlin, from the North East and Yorkshire regions, meaning more Brits will be able to explore the much-loved German capital.
Leon McQuaid, director of aviation development at Newcastle Airport, said: “We are delighted to see further investment from Eurowings with new flights to Berlin next summer, complimenting the airline’s existing route to Düsseldorf.
“Berlin has always been a popular destination for the North East travelling public and we have received lots of customer feedback asking for a direct service – so it is fantastic Eurowings is launching this new service next summer. I am positive the route will be hugely popular with our customers.”
Reinald Frankewitz, head of airport & network relations at Eurowings, said: “The new connection between Newcastle and Berlin is a real gain for both airports and their passengers.
“The German capital with its eventful history and urban present is an exciting destination, and I am sure that many travellers from Berlin will use the convenient direct connection to explore the North East of England.”
The new route announcement follows news of Newcastle Airport becoming the first UK airport to be recognised as the best in the world, at the Routes World Conference. The airport has also retained the global ‘Best Airport’ award in the zero-to-five million passengers category, for the second year running.
The historic city of Berlin is loved by Brits for its monuments such as the Brandenburg Gate and Reichstag, as well as the city’s diverse culture and food scene.
The news forms part of a larger announcement that Eurowings will fly to 42 destinations from Berlin Airport in summer 2025, including Bilbao, Corfu, Faro and Jerez de la Frontera for the first time.
The airline is also increasing its frequencies to existing destinations such as Malaga, Heraklion, Rhodes, Graz, Nice, Kos, Split, Yerevan and Erbil will be served more frequently in future. There will be 21 fights per week from Berlin to Majorca, Spain, which is Germany’s most popular vacation island.
