One man is still missing, one was hospitalised and another has died after a crash involving an inflatable boat off the coast of Portsmouth
A man has died and another is still missing after a collision involving an inflatable boat near Tipner in Portsmouth.
The man who died, in his 60s and from Emsworth, was pronounced dead at the scene, police have confirmed. His next of kin have been informed.
A second man is missing, and a third has been hospitalised. A private rigid hulled inflatable boat was involved in the crash, at around 8pm on Thursday.
A Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary spokesman said three men were involved in the incident, with one of them still unaccounted for.
They said: “Officers were called to the area just before 8pm.
“A man in his 60s from Emsworth was pronounced deceased at the scene. His family have been informed and will be supported by officers. A man in his 50s from West Sussex was taken to hospital, but has since been discharged.
“Enquiries are ongoing to locate a third person, a man in his 60s from Havant, who is still outstanding. We are liaising with the Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) during the early stages of an investigation to establish what has happened.”
