Toddler shows cat his train set and reaction leaves mum in hysterics

By staff19 September 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

A mum has shared a hilarious video of her cat’s antics with her toddler’s new train set, with the feline seemingly claiming the toy for himself – and people are loving it

A toddler and his cat have become internet sensations, with their playful antics involving a train set being viewed by hundreds of thousands online.

Dogs are often hailed as man’s best friend, always eager for attention, but cats can sometimes be a bit more aloof. This dynamic was perfectly captured in a heartwarming video posted on TikTok by British mum Chelsea, who runs an account dedicated to her pet cat, Kingston.

The seemingly innocent clip shows the young lad engrossed in play with his new model train set. However, things take a hilarious turn when Kingston takes a fancy to the toy. As the tot moves away, Kingston seizes the opportunity to claim the train set for himself, much to the amusement of hundreds of thousands of viewers.

Kingston appears to relish his role as the conductor, watching the trains go round and round. He seems to have taken over from Thomas the Tank Engine, although he might need a few lessons in sharing.

In a chat with Newsweek, Chelsea revealed: “My son wasn’t very happy to see Kingston claiming the train set as his own, but [he] is learning to accept that more than one person at a time can play with it!”.

Interestingly, Kingston’s railway adventures may have taught the youngster a valuable lesson about sharing, as suggested by the post’s caption: “How do you teach a 1-year-old how to share?”.

Chelsea joked: “The caption is just tongue-in-cheek, as a 1-year-old, my son is still learning how to share, so perhaps this is a good time to teach him to share his toys.”

However, the Persian appears to rule the roost, requiring plenty of attention from its owners and disliking being left alone.

In another video, Chelsea shared some facts about the breed, saying: “They do not handle being left alone for long periods. They need plenty of attention from their owners and can become lonely if they are left alone too often or for more than a few hours at a time.”

According to Chelsea, the breed gets on well with children if introduced at a young age, but will retreat if they start to feel overwhelmed – or in this case, commandeer a train set.

The video has already been viewed over 800,000 times on TikTok in just two days, receiving more than 100,000 likes.

Fans have been going wild for Kingston in the comments, with many suggesting cats have a particular fondness for miniature trains. One wrote: “Mine claimed a train set as a kitten and it’s still her favourite toy 9 years later, pushes the train cars and everything.”

Another added: “My kitty did the same with my son’s wooden trains & would even push them with his forehead to mimic my son.”
