Tommy Fury admits boxing career is ‘laughing stock’ in candid admission

The young British boxing star has had his ups and downs over the last few years and admitted that his career is a ‘laughing stock’ in a newly-released documentary

Tommy Fury has openly admitted his career is a ‘laughing stock’ after he cancelled his clash with Darren Till earlier this year.

Fury and Till were due to go head-to-head in Manchester on on January 18 and met at a fiery press conference back in November – which was marred by controversy after John Fury squirted water at Till, sparking utter chaos. Till had earlier said he would kick ‘TNT’ in the head during their fight if he was losing.

In a recently released documentary series on BBC iPlayer “Tommy: The Good. The Bad. The Fury” – the 26-year-old opened up on his career after Till took a swipe at his rival as well as the Fury name. Reacting to the clip, Fury Sr said: “You f****** w*****! F*** off, end that s***. No pay cheque for you! F*** straight off. He was getting a massive payday out of Tommy. You know, and now he is back to nothing getting nothing. The dole queue.”

After asking his dad what the reaction has been to the news, a dejected Fury then added: “Career’s a laughing stock. Full career’s a laughing stock.” Trying to cheer his son up, Fury Snr replied: “It would be a bigger laughing stock if you laid there cripple for life over a bum, just to please the public. F*** the public! It is only a plastic life. All this internet is plastic. Come on, Tom, get real mate.”

Refusing to back down on the topic, the young British boxer said: “No, it is not that. But where the f*** is the other opponent? We are not working with the Warrens. We are not working with the Misfits. I do not earn money if I do not do that. It is just tough isn’t it? I have been training since f****** August for nothing.”

After Till threatened to kick Fury in the head, the latter and his dad can be seen discussing the potential risks of the Liverpudlian following through with his promise. Fury Snr admitted the former UFC star could put his son “out of the game” if he resorted to “MMA tactics.”

Reflecting on Till’s comments, Fury said on the documentary: “2024 has been the worst year of my life, hands down, without a doubt, the worst year. So I am not prepared to start it off with an idiot who is not willing to engage in boxing rules.” He later added: “You know, I am not coming back to a wrestling match. You know, I worked hard enough getting my hand back to where it is. The last thing I need is a f****** idiot to roll around the floor with.”

In an interview with Mirror Fighting, Till claimed Fury made “a mockery of his family” by pulling out of their Misfits Boxing clash. “Yeah, do you know what? Potentially. At this point with Tommy, the fight would be big, but it’s just for me,” he said. “The money’s got to be right and stuff like that, because he’s trying to say he wouldn’t give me the time of day. But I just wouldn’t give him the time of day. He’s made a mockery out of himself, he knows that as well.

“He’s made a mockery out of his family. So for me, if it’s there, it’s there. But if it’s not, I don’t really give a s***. Tommy seems to think I care. I don’t really give a s*** if I fight Tommy or not. It doesn’t change my life, I’ll probably make an extra bit of money because he’s a big name and it’s a big fight, but it doesn’t change my life fighting Tommy or not. So if the money’s right, and obviously I get to call the shots – because I’m the shot caller now – then yeah, let’s see, maybe we’ll do it.”

When is Tommy Fury’s next fight?

Fury made his comeback in May for the first time in almost two years, beating Kenan Hanjalic on points. Following that bout, he has exchanged heated words with Paul repeatedly regarding a possible rematch. Fury secured victory in their original clash in 2023, but the American has been demanding a second encounter ever since.

The Brit has recently delivered an ultimatum to the ‘Problem Child,’ telling Boxing Social. “If I were to fight him, which I think will 100 per cent happen, then he has got to stop talking b****** like he is every single day on Twitter. He is offering stupid numbers that are not realistic. He thinks because he has got a few followers on Instagram and YouTube that he can call the shots, but if you want to come into a sport where we fight, then none of that matters. You lost, I won. So let’s talk some realistic numbers.”

He added: “At the end of the day, I am not unreasonable. He’s going on about earning X amount; okay, then let’s be fair and go down the middle. And if you don’t want to go right down the middle, then give me what I am asking for because at the end of the day, you lost and I won.”
