Tommy Fury has been away from boxing for two years but the 25-year-old is closing in on a return to the ring and has now confirmed a date and location for his comeback
Tommy Fury has confirmed he will return to the boxing ring in May. He will be back in action in Budapest on the ninth of the month, the best part of two years on from his most recent fight, though the identity of his opponent has not been confirmed.
“Two years out. One surgery. The hardest battle I’ve faced has been the mental battle of being away from boxing,” Fury wrote on Instagram. “But I’m back stronger, sharper, and more HUNGARY than ever. May 9th, Budapest… It’s showtime. Let’s go!”
Fury’s most recent bout came in late 2023 when he took on KSI in Manchester. He was due to face mixed martial artist Darren Till in January of this year, but pulled out of that clash in December 2024.
“I can’t believe I’m writing this but I am now not fighting Darren Till on January 18,” Fury said in December after Till had threatened to kick him in the head. “For the one simple reason being that Darren has stated over and over that he does not want to abide by professional boxing rules and that if he is losing the fight he will resort to kicking and other stupid MMA tactics.
“I am a professional boxer, I have been out of the ring for over a year and I wanted this to be a great BOXING fight for the fans. I have wasted weeks in training camp. We are working hard to get a new opponent and date. I promise to get a better opponent and better fight for you guys. Good news around the corner.”
Fury, who made his professional boxing debut in 2018, has a 10-0 record over the course of his career. The majority of those victories came in the UK, while he also claimed a split decision victory over Jake Paul in Saudi Arabia in 2023.
In early April, Fury was accused of passing up on a potential rematch with Paul. “Tommy was offered an unbelievable deal to headline versus Jake on Netflix and they had a false sense of expectations,” Paul’s promotional partner Nakisa Bidarian told The Sun.
“Jake’s not gonna ever offer him that kind of money again. Now if Tommy Fury showed up and said, ‘Jake, here is $20million to fight me and I’m gonna make $20million.’ Right, all the power to you.
