Baby naming experts have revealed the top five baby name predictions for 2026, with one ‘obsession’ driving the most popular choices for expectant parents
Parents-to-be in 2026 are predicted to draw inspiration from their hobbies when choosing baby names. Baby naming experts forecast that the best-selling fantasy novels of 2025 will have a significant influence on name choices in the new year, with expectant parents taking cues from their favourite fictional characters.
In addition to fantasy literature, it’s anticipated that music, film, television, and sports will also play a role in shaping baby name trends.
Lars B Andersen, Managing Director at mynametags.com, remarks: “We’ve been tracking name trends for over 20 years and see how time and again parents’ choices are influenced by the media and pop culture. 2025 has been the year of escaping reality and leaning into the whimsical and otherworldly.
“Fiction has always been a strong indicator of baby name trends, but with younger parents more active on social media than ever before, BookTok’s obsession over fantasy novels has taken it to new heights.”
Fantasy fiction
Experts predict a surge in popularity for the name Violet, inspired by the protagonist of 2025’s highest-selling book, Onyx Storm, penned by Rebecca Yarros. This name was already in the top 50, but with over 2.7 million copies of Onyx Storm sold this year, it’s expected to break into the top 30 for 2026, reports the Express.
For boys, the name Rhys is tipped to become more popular, thanks to the character Rhysand in the beloved romantasy series, A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas.
Another fantasy-inspired moniker that could climb the popularity charts is Maysilee, from the character in Sunrise on the Reaping, one of 2025’s best-selling novels. With a film adaptation set to hit screens in 2026, this name could see a surge in popularity in 2027.
Music
Musicians are tipped to be another influence on baby names. The name Ophelia, inspired by Taylor Swift’s single from her latest album, The Life Of A Showgirl, is predicted to gain traction in 2026.
The name Alex is also expected to rise in popularity, thanks to viral singer, Alex Warren. Similarly, the name Liam could see a resurgence following the buzz around the Oasis reunion tour, having previously peaked in the top 10 after the release of the band’s chart-topping album (What’s The Story) Morning Glory? in 1995.
Film and TV
With Disney’s live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch being one of 2025’s biggest box office hits, the name Lilo could prove popular for those seeking something a bit different. For boys’ names, Conrad is also anticipated to gain popularity, inspired by Conrad Fisher from The Summer I Turned Pretty.
Sports
Lioness star, Chloe Kelly, is expected to influence baby name trends in 2026, after she netted England’s winning penalty against Spain in the UEFA European Women’s Championship 2025. Golf enthusiasts might take inspiration from Rory McIlroy, following his Masters victory in April.
