Glastonbury Festival is famed for its huge crowds of campers, and many attendees have been caught out by the same mistake, prompting some regular attendees to share their tips
Regulars at the iconic Glastonbury Festival have shared a crucial piece of advice for those planning to attend with their friends. Many have made this mistake, according to posts on the r/GlastonburyFestival subreddit, where seasoned festival-goers are urging newcomers to have a solid plan for their trip.
One user shared their pre-Glastonbury Festival itinerary and what they planned to do once there. Their post reads: “I’m meeting pals this weekend to discuss Glasto logistics as we’re all coming in from different directions. Two of them haven’t been before. What are some basics to discuss in advance? Getting there, were we’d all camp, leaving. What else can I include?”
Since then, users have suggested a checklist of essential items to bring, pointing out that a common error is packing multiples of the same item unnecessarily.
They also stressed the importance of saving space for the festival, which will see The 1975, Neil Young, and Olivia Rodrigo headlining the Pyramid Stage this year.
One festival enthusiast advised: “How far the walk can be from the carpark and that you will be carrying everything you take… think before you pack.” Another agreed, cautioning that overpacking will make the journey there and back a hassle.
They wrote: “How to pack as a group- some things you’ll only need 1/2 of collectively and avoiding duplication is a good way to pack light. Example: Cooler, air bed pump, cups.”
Another suggested dividing festival essentials. They wrote: “If one or more of you is bringing a trolley, it’s also helpful to decide who takes the heavy stuff (beers, tents etc) rather than it being a free for all.”
Another forum user added their insight for the upcoming festivities, recommending: “The two most important things are (1) sorting out who’s bringing what alcohol so you don’t all inadvertently bring vodka and no one brings the rum, and (2) making sure everyone’s Glasto fitness regime is on track.
“I recommend at least three times a week doing a half hour walk to a pub, downing a few pints, and then a half hour back, ideally with a carry out for the walk home.”
“At the weekend you can maybe string a few pubs together with 30 min walks in between, and then you will be totally set up for the beer/cider fuelled 10 miles you’re gonna do every day for the best week ever in June.”
While some might mock the walking regimen, for others this guidance is no laughing matter. One music lover shared they had walked an astounding “three marathons” by the time the festival wrapped up.
Tackling the challenge of synchronising gig schedules within a group, another fan suggested an approach to ease potential frustrations. They wrote: “Each pick a non negotiable artist you want to see you all have to go to. Any more than one each it can get restrictive and hard to organise and get there especially with crowds.”
“The best parts are often going to the performances you stumble across though!”
