Daniel Levy’s decision to step down from his role as Executive Chairman after nearly 25 years at Tottenham has sparked some surprise, and a degree of celebration from some Spurs fans.

Levy watched the club win a European trophy last season but has proven a divisive figure at the heart of Tottenham for supporters of the club. The 63-year-old and ENIC have seen a number of protests over their ownership of the club.

Despite ensuring a period of relative stability while moving from White Hart Lane to the Tottenham Hostpur Stadium, the club has often been accused of lacking ambition having struggled for silverware. But as he brings his time working day-to-day at the club to a close, Levy noted his pride for what the club has achieved.

Levy said: “I am incredibly proud of the work I have done together with the executive team and all our employees. We have built this club into a global heavyweight competing at the highest level. More than that, we have built a community. I was lucky enough to work with some of the greatest people in this sport, from the team at Lilywhite House and Hotspur Way to all the players and managers over the years.

“I wish to thank all the fans that have supported me over the years. It hasn’t always been an easy journey but significant progress has been made. I will continue to support this club passionately.”

Levy retains an ownership stake of 29.88 per cent of the share capital of ENIC which owns 86.91 per cent of Spurs. Recent months have seen Vinai Venkatesham appointed as Chief Executive Officer, while Peter Charrington now takes on the newly created role of Non-Executive Chairman.

As a new era dawns in north London. Spurs fans expressed their surprise on social media.

“Never thought this day would come,” one X user said. “Wishing him the best in his future endeavour.”

“What a huge shock,” added another. “Wonder what happened.” A further user said: “I was convinced this was a fake account for a second”.

“Okayyy, that wasn’t on today’s bingo card,” noted on fan. “Unsure how I feel about that tbh.”

Others were clearer in their feelings. “This is the greatest day of my life,” said one fan, as another admitted: “Greatest day for Spurs fans in 2025 which is saying a lot.”

“Finally, we’ve broken from the shackles and iron grip of Daniel Levy,” commented another. One supporter said: “Can’t lie, this changes everything transfers, management, even stadium direction. Big news.”

Others were more reflective however, and are cautious over Levy’s exit.

“People hate to admit it but he’s been amazing for this club,” said one fan. “Unlucky to not win more of the finals we’ve had, but we’ve been competing at the top for many years with a fraction of the resources of our peers.”

“Thanks Daniel, COYS for keeping us in the black all these years, finally delivering a trophy and that wonderful wonderful stadium,” said another.

“Thank you Daniel,” a further follower said. “While not a popular take, you were a good servant to the club. Were at almost every game. You left the club healthier and forever changed for the better.”
