Arsenal and Manchester United are among the clubs weighing up a move for Mathys Tel but it’s Tottenham who have moved to agree a deal worth £50million with Bayern Munich
Tottenham are said to have verbally agreed a deal in principle worth £50million for Bayern Munich winger, Mathys Tel.
The 19-year-old Frenchman has a number of suitors within the Premier League including the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United, all of whom have been monitoring his situation at Bayern in the final days of the January window.
Tel is ready to proceed with a move away from the club in order to play more regularly. And while it was previously outlined that his preference would be to join Arsenal or United, it’s Tottenham who have made their move.
As revealed by The Times, Spurs have reached a verbal agreement with the German giants over Tel, who is expected to move before Monday’s deadline.
It’s outlined that Bayern would prefer to loan Tel out, rather than sell him. But the size of Tottenham’s offer – which amounts to £50m including clauses – means they will agree to a sale should the player wish to pursue the move.
Tel is set to consider his options with his agent in the coming days. And while Spurs have moved quickly to strike a deal with Bayern, it remains to be seen if that’s where Tel’s future lies.
It was reported earlier on Thursday that he was in no rush to decide his next move as he weighs up all the options on the table.

Tel has made just 14 appearances for Bayern this term, registering just the one assist. He is highly-rated in Munich, though, and scored 10 goals last season in all competitions.
Spurs have moved now for Tel in a bid to beat off competition from their rivals. Their technical director, Johan Lange, is in Germany and took in Bayern’s Champions League win over Slovan Bratislava on Wednesday night. The two clubs have a positive relationship following negotiations over deals for Harry Kane and Eric Dier.
Tottenham are currently coping without the services of several key players who are all injured, including Dominic Solanke, Brennan Johnson, Timo Werner, Wilson Odobert and James Maddison.
Richarlison was also withdrawn in the 2-1 defeat against Leicester last weekend with a groin issue, though it remains to be seen if the Brazilian striker will also be sidelined.
