Former The Only Way I Essex star Yazmin Oukhellou has been rushed to hospital as she issued an urgent plea with her 1million social media followers while attached to a drip
The Only Way Is Essex star Yazmin Oukhellou has been rushed to hospital and issued a warning to her fans. She revealed she was hooked up to a drip after falling ill.
Yazmin took time to make a plea to her fans amid the health scare as she revealed it was due to food poisoning. The former reality TV star shared a snap from her hospital bed, that showed a drip in the back of her hand.
Issuing her stark warning, Yazmin said: “Don’t eat oysters [vomiting and crying emojis].” She fell ill after eating a dodgy oyster and urged her 1million followers to be careful with seafood.
According to government research, an estimated 12,000-14,000 people in the UK a year experience sickness and diarrhoea after eating seafood, usually raw oysters. The illness can caused by the group of viruses known as noroviruses, which is mostly transmitted via person-to-person contact.
However, oysters exposed to noroviruses when human sewage enters their growing areas can be vehicles of disease. Yazmin had been on TOWIE since 2017 but was axed two years later along with ex-boyfriend James Lock.
She did go on to make a comeback, but in 2023 she decided it was time for a change after surviving a car crash that killed her on-off boyfriend Jake McLean.
A source told the Sun at the time: “Yaz has decided to step away from the next series of TOWIE and focus on recovering from the trauma of what she has been through over the last year.”
They added: “She needed a break after everything to process what’s happened, so she has decided to leave the show and will not be in the next series.”
Yazmin had been on holiday in Turkey with Jake when he died. She had been in a car with him which overturned after plunging 30 feet into a ditch in July 2022.
It tragically led to the death of her on-off boyfriend Jake, who was just 33. Yazmin suffered serious injuries and had been on a “healing” journey in the months since.
She was asleep at the time that the car veered off the cliff, something that doctors say may have saved her life. Yazmin posted footage of her undergoing treatment to try to improve the appearance of her scars in the months after the crash.
The TV star said she had been suffering survivor’s guilt after making it out alive and revealed she was trolled for trying to get over the trauma of the accident.
Posting on social media, Yazmin said: “Every scar that you have is a reminder not just that you got hurt, but that you survived. This year was the year that changed my life forever. I lived through something I shouldn’t have. I learned that I am not as weak as I thought I was.
“I learned the importance of family and good friends and I learned that each and every day is simply a blessing. There are nights I still cry myself to sleep and days I put my phone on aeroplane mode and hide away from the world, and that is okay.
“There are days I glam myself up and post on here so that everyone thinks I’m doing great and living my best life. And you know what? That’s okay too.”
She added: “To put it quite frankly, f*** what anyone else has to say on the matter. Live life for YOU because this is your story and no one else’s. I have had so many people judge me, give opinions, makeup stories and I used to care, but since nearly losing my life I couldn’t give a s***.
She has made a new career providing wealthy clients with luxury products under the business name, Sourced By Yaz. Yazmin also has a passion for music as she headed into the recording studio a couple years ago.
