Add a touch of the Mediterranean to your garden with bargain-priced olive trees for spring
Green-fingered enthusiasts can now bring a slice of the Mediterranean to their gardens with Home Bargains’ latest addition. The value retailer has spruced up its garden section with sizeable olive trees for spring, perfect for creating an Italian retreat vibe right in your backyard.
Home Bargains, which Tom Morris established in Liverpool, showcased the lush trees on social media, and it’s safe to say shoppers are smitten. The post boasted: “Add a touch of the Mediterranean to your home with our gorgeous large olive trees. £79.99. Only available in Garden World stores.”
The large olive trees at Home Bargains are up for grabs at £79.99. If you’re after something a bit smaller, there are also petite versions on offer for just £19.99. Both variants come potted and are exclusive to Home Bargains outlets featuring a Garden World, reports Plymouth Live.
Customers are raving about these botanical beauties, with many having already snapped them up. On Instagram, Melso gushed: “I love my olive tree.” Shelley exclaimed: “Omg I need this.” Rebecca chimed in: “I have three @homebargains, love them.”
Over on Facebook, Deborah commented: “A couple of these will look really classy in your garden.” Sophie, hoping to secure one, tagged a friend: “If you see any, can you get me one.” Countless others alerted their pals to the find, sharing the excitement far and wide.
Olive trees, native to the Mediterranean region, thrive in warm, arid conditions similar to their original habitat. The ideal spot for these trees is a bright, sheltered area – preferably south-facing with a brick wall providing additional protection.
While olive trees can tolerate drought to a degree, those grown in pots need regular watering. Dry spells in early spring can affect their flowering and fruiting, so if you’re planning on harvesting olives, it’s crucial to monitor them closely.
During the growing season, potted olive trees should be fertilised every fortnight with a liquid feed. In severe winter weather, consider using horticultural fleece to protect trees planted in borders.
Cold temperatures, especially below -10C, can damage the leaves and bark of olive trees. However, these resilient plants usually recover, although their fruit yield may decrease in the following season.
In other news from Home Bargains, the budget retailer has caught the eye of many shoppers with its new garden trellis that looks ‘amazing’ when lit up at night. This bargain decoration also serves as an attractive cover for ‘boring’ fences.
In a recent post on Facebook, the popular budget store shared several photos of its new ‘pretty’ artificial foliage trellis, which comes with solar-powered lights.
