Travis Kelce facing second NFL fine after Kansas City Chiefs defeat

By staff7 October 2025No Comments4 Mins Read

Travis Kelce became the Kansas City Chiefs’ all-time leader in all-purpose yards during Monday night’s loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, but the tight end could be hit with a fine

Despite marking a significant milestone on Monday night, Travis Kelce left the Kansas City Chiefs’ clash against the Jacksonville Jaguars with a bitter taste in his mouth following a dramatic last-minute defeat. With just 23 seconds to spare, the Jaguars stole the lead from the Chiefs when Trevor Lawrence miraculously found the endzone, stumbling twice after taking the snap for a decisive touchdown.

This brought the score to 31-28 in favour of Jacksonville after the extra point. Patrick Mahomes’ desperate hail mary attempt fell short, leaving the Chiefs with a 2-3 record while the Jaguars moved up to 4-1 for the season.

Monday’s match also saw Kelce make seven catches for 61 yards and a touchdown from eight targets. Just days after his fiancée, Taylor Swift, dropped her latest album, he became the Chiefs’ all-time leader in all-purpose yards, overtaking the previous record set by Dante Hall at 12,356.

However, despite no penalty being called during the game, Kelce could face a fine following the loss to the Jaguars for an uncalled blindside block. In the second quarter, Mahomes connected with wide receiver Hollywood Brown for a 16-yard catch and run.

Kelce, who was downfield ahead of Brown, turned back and headed towards his teammate to try and provide a block. The tight end grabbed safety Andrew Wingard’s shoulder before delivering a hit to linebacker Devin Lloyd.

Despite Brown’s 16-yard gain down the sideline, no flag was thrown during the play. Yet, Lloyd’s hit could have been deemed a blindside block, which would have resulted in a 15-yard penalty.

The NFL has the power to fine Kelce retrospectively. A first offence for a blindside block can lead to a fine of up to £13,000 ($17,389), while a second offence can bump that amount up to £17,500 ($23,186). If Kelce is fined, it wouldn’t be his first this season.

During the Chiefs’ Week 2 defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles, he was slapped with an £11,000 ($14,491) fine for an ‘obscene gesture’. Over his career, Kelce has been fined a total of 10 times, racking up a combined fine of £101,000 ($133,918).

Kansas City now faces the daunting task of bouncing back next week on Sunday Night Football against the Detroit Lions. After an opening-day loss to the Green Bay Packers, the Lions have racked up 52 points against the Chicago Bears, 38 points against the Baltimore Ravens, 34 points against the Cleveland Browns and 37 against the Cincinnati Bengals in their last four games.

The Chiefs currently sit third in the AFC West, behind the Los Angeles Chargers and Denver Broncos, who both boast a 3-2 record for the year.
