A mum has shared the results of a ‘strip wash’ she gave her partner’s seven-year-old sofa – and people are horrified by the colour of the water that was left behind
As the evenings draw in we’re all spending more time at home and inevitably lounging on our sofas.
Yet, despite being a favourite spot, sofas are often neglected in our cleaning routines, with many of us only hoovering between the cushions occasionally in search of lost change. However, one mum’s shocking cleaning revelation might just prompt you to unzip those sofa covers and give them a thorough wash.
In the ‘Mums Who Clean’ Facebook group, which has over 230,000 members, a mum shared her experience of giving her partner’s sofa a deep clean after seven years of neglect. Opting for a ‘strip wash’ in the bathtub rather than a quick machine wash, she was stunned by the filthy results.
She added soda crystals, Borax, and washing up liquid to hot water, only to see it turn a murky grey almost instantly. The sofa covers required two soaks to get fully clean, and she proudly posted photos with the caption: “Feeling very happy with myself.”
She explained her reluctance towards her partner’s couch, saying: “I really don’t like my partner’s couch but we decided not to buy a new one until next year.” After the double strip wash – the first in seven years – and a bag of shredded foam, she showcased her impressive results.
“I didn’t take proper before photos because I had already started stripping it. Now to sit on it and enjoy self-isolation.” The transformation was so impressive that it inspired others to try the same, with one person commenting: “OMG just look at the colour of the water! I need to do this with mine!”
