TSB app and online banking down with customers locked out of accounts

By staff1 September 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

Some people say they’re being greeted with the following message when trying to log into the TSB app: ‘We weren’t able to do that. Service temporarily unavailable’

TSB appears to be having issues with its app and online banking this afternoon, with hundreds of customers unable to access their accounts.

Outage tracker DownDetector shows issues started around 12pm, with 1,300 complaints recorded shortly after 2pm. It coincides with pay day for millions of Brits.

Some people say they’re being greeted with the following message when trying to log into the TSB app: “We weren’t able to do that. Service temporarily unavailable.”

Writing on X, previously Twitter, one person said: “Can you please tell me what on earth is going on? Second time its been down in under a week.

“Got bills to pay and currently on hold to TSB now no luck. Not happy with this, if this is the service I am getting I will look for alternative options!”

Another said: “Why is the mobile app down and how long is this going on for.” A third person posted: “App is down. How long to fix it?” A fourth commented: “As usual it’s payday and @TSB banking app is down.”

TSB has confirmed it is experiencing issues in a reply to one customer, with the high street bank saying: “We’re aware some customers are experiencing issues with our Mobile Banking app and Internet Banking.

“We’re sorry for any inconvenience and are working to resolve this as soon as possible.” The Mirror has contacted TSB for comment.

Your rights when banking apps go down

If your bank services have gone down, you aren’t automatically entitled to any compensation – it instead depends on how badly the outage has affected you.

For example, if it made you miss a bill or affected your credit score, then you may be able to ask for compensation. It also depends on how long the service disruption lasts for and how quickly the bank worked to resolve it.

You would need to put in a complaint with evidence on how the issue left you out of pocket. If you’re in desperate need of access to your money but your online services are down, you can go to your local bank branch to withdraw your funds as normal.

If you don’t have a local bank branch nearby or you’re unable to get there, try and call your bank or contact it on social media to ask what to do.
