People tell of rooms ‘swinging’ when the earthquake hit
People have told of buildings shaking violently as an earthquake hit western Turkey.
One person in Izmir wrote on social media: “Objects were swinging. It came in a set of three waves, one right after the other. We were on the 7th floor of a hotel, most guests woke up and started running outside.”
Another in Burhaniye which is around 100km from the epicentre wrote: “It was shaking from side to side, so strong, the room door also was shaking eround 5-10cm, bed was shaking so strong.”
While a comment from a person in Istanbul read: “In hotel bed, felt swaying motion,” and in Bornova, 122 km from the epicentre, there was “severe shaking” described.
