Turkey hotel issues scathing statement as mum arrested for ‘worst mistake of her life’

Georgia Harrison, 32, was celebrating her boyfriend’s new teeth during a drunken hotel blunder in Turkey and allegedly left the room ‘unusable’, breaking the TV, window and mini bar

A mum who admitted damaging a hotel room in Turkey in a drunken blunder has been slammed by the resort, which says she left the room “unusable” and shared images of the damage left behind. Georgia Harrison was arrested with her partner on May 7 after allegedly trying to leave the Lexia Hotel in Antalya without declaring the damage.

In a GoFundMe plea, she confessed: “I got drunk and I have somehow smashed the shower screen of the hotel room and damaged the room. [It was the] worst mistake of my life. Anyway it’s done, I can’t change it but wow am I paying for it.” The 32-year-old, who was celebrating her boyfriend’s new teeth when the chaos erupted, claims she was thrown in a Turkish cell packed with “hundreds of men” and held for several days.

She said she was then handed a £15,000 bill by a judge, Manchester Evening News reports. She has since been barred from leaving Turkey until the hotel receives payment for the damages.

The hotel has meanwhile issued a statement in response to what it called “one-sided” reporting of the incident – along with images showing the full extent of the damage caused to the couple’s room.

Georgia previously claimed she had only broken the glass screen in the bathroom, but says she was advised by her legal team to “stay quiet”. She says she has attempted to get the fine lifted with the help of legal professionals abroad, but raised concerns about getting “robbed left right and centre” by what she claims are corrupt lawyers and translators.

But according to the hotel, the shower cabin was “completely broken”, the LCD television was “removed and rendered unusable”, the outer window of the room was “broken by an object thrown from inside”, and two single beds were “separated and rendered unusable”.

The hotel claimed bed sheets and towel sets were “rendered unusable”, and said they found “traces of drinks and food” on the ceiling and walls. “The furniture and items used in our rooms are specially designed, and the repair process took approximately one month,” they said.

“According to the proforma invoices received from the company that built our hotel, the cost of the damages was requested from the guests,” the post on their website reads.

“Our aim is to act within the framework of justice and transparency. You can examine the photos below to reflect the truth against one-sided narratives. As stated by our guests themselves, our guests left the hotel room unusable,” the post continued.

“As can be seen in the attached images, the shower cabin of our room was completely broken, our LCD television was removed and rendered unusable, the outer window of the room was broken by an object thrown from inside, two separate single beds used as a double bed were broken, separated, and rendered unusable, the minibar that we provide in the rooms as standard was broken and rendered unusable, wall-mounted objects and lighting systems used in the room were removed and rendered unusable, the bed linen and towel sets in our rooms were left unusable, there were traces of various drinks and food on the ceiling and side walls of the room, and the room had to be completely painted.

“The furniture, add-ons, and all kinds of items used in our rooms are specially designed, and within this scope, the repair of our room took approximately one month.

“We would also like to state that our room could not be sold to customers for one month, and our facility suffered financial damage in this regard. The proforma invoices received from the company that built our hotel are also shared as an image in the attachment, and we have requested the balance in the proforma invoices from the customers.”

Georgia has been stuck in Turkey since the incident, unable to leave to go home to her 12-year-old daughter.

“I know I did wrong and I regret being so stupid to have damaged the hotel, but I need to get home to my daughter,” she wrote in a post on GoFundMe. “I’m sorry I was scared and I just tried to get away from it by trying to leave. Yes it was the wrong thing to do, but I was scared and not thinking straight.

“Maybe if I didn’t, I would be in this mess. I know only I am to blame and my actions are the reason I cannot see my daughter.”
