Claudia Winkleman is set to host a celebrity version of the Traitors and there’s been speculation in recent weeks over the line-up of contestants ahead of its eventual broadcast
A well-known TV presenter is said to have turned down the opportunity to be on the celebrity version of the Traitors despite being “flattered” by the offer.
The BBC confirmed last year that it had commissioned a star-studded version of the show, which launched in 2022. There has since been much speculation over the potential line-up for the celebrity spin-off ahead of its release.
It’s now been reported that Lorraine Kelly, 65, met with producers over the prospect of signing up and that bosses were “keen” for her to involved. She’s however said to have not been able to “make it work” due to scheduling conflicts.
A source told the Sun: “She loves the show and was super flattered to be asked, so she had a meeting with them which went really well. Producers were hoping she would sign on the dotted line, but in the end, Lorraine couldn’t make it work with her schedule at the moment so had to pass.”
It was however added by the source that bosses would still be interested in the presenter – who fronts ITV’s Lorraine – competing in a potential second series. The source has told the outlet: “The powers that be were gutted but they love Lorraine and the door is definitely open if they do a second series of the star-studded spin-off.”
The news comes following reports that This Country stars Daisy May-Cooper, 38, and Charlie Cooper, 35, dropped out just weeks before filming. A source told the Mirror that the siblings, who both have young children, said they couldn’t be away from their families for the show, filmed in Scotland.
Celebrities rumoured to have signed up for the show include Stephen Fry, Tom Daley and Clare Balding. The line-up however has yet to be announced by the BBC and is likely to be confirmed closer to the show’s eventual broadcast. Asked about the latest speculation, a spokesperson for the Traitors told us this morning: “The Traitors is a game that includes lies and deception, thus it would be foolhardy for any Faithful to speculate before the game has begun.”
Earlier this year, host Claudia Winkleman, 53, teased over the celebrity version of the Traitors in an interview with the Radio Times. Asked if she had vetoed any of her friends or colleagues from appearing on the show, she suggested that it would be “hard” if a close friend competed on it. Claudia said: “I haven’t vetoed anyone, but I think it would be hard if a great friend did it.”
