Prague and Amsterdam are among the rowdiest for British grooms and brides-to-be despite efforts to curb drunken tourism
Despite concerted crackdowns by local governments aiming to deter alcohol-fuelled stag parties, it appears that both Amsterdam and Prague are still top destinations for British pre-wedding revelries.
Measures to reduce drunken tourism have reportedly done little to curb the flow of tourists. These hotspots remain highly sought after among Brits for stag and hen do celebrations, with bookings showing no signs of waning, reports Last Night of Freedom, a company specialising in organising such trips.
The founder of Last Night of Freedom, Matt Mavir, said: “Amsterdam and Prague are two of the most popular cities in Europe for our stag groups, and we’ve always maintained these campaigns were never likely to work.
“Our stags just aren’t put off, and the booking stats back that up.”
Amsterdam was the pioneer in launching vigorous campaigns discouraging Brits from descending on the city, introducing rules against public consumption of alcohol and cannabis, and ceasing paid tours through its notorious red light district.
Not to be outdone, Prague took steps too, initially trying to ban fancy dress and subsequently outlawing organised bar hops throughout the Czech capital’s sprawling network of bars.
All this occurs amidst alleged efforts by both cities to draw in a wealthier, more sophisticated type of tourist, and shifting their image away from being mere party hubs, reports the Express.
Mavir revealed: “We’ve crunched the numbers for 2024, which show both cities remain in the top 10 most popular destinations for stag groups which proves their enduring appeal.”
