The two individuals were discovered under the wheel arch of the coach as it travelled along the M11 near Stansted, Essex, on Friday night (June 6)
Two stowaways were found under a coach brimming with children from Cambridgeshire, returning from a French sortie. The pupils, hailing from Swavesey Village College, were on their way back last Friday (June 6) when the startling find occurred near Stansted, Essex.
The incident occurred as the coach travelled along the M11, prompting an immediate police response around 10pm. Confirming the events, an Essex Police spokesperson disclosed that officers attended the scene on Saturday (June 7) at the said time, reports Cambridgeshire Live.
Authorities detained one of the stowaways, while social services stepped in for the other. A Swavesey Village College spokesperson said: “While returning from our France trip on Friday, two individuals were discovered under the wheel arch of one of the coaches.”
They added: “We are very proud of our students, who remained calm and cooperative as they exited the coach and were supervised by our staff at the service station while police investigated and resolved the situation. They were a credit to themselves and to the school, showing maturity and patience during an unexpected delay at the end of an already long journey.
“The safety and wellbeing of our students is always our highest priority, and at no point were students or staff in contact with the individuals involved. We also want to thank our parents for their support and understanding.
“They were informed of the delay as soon as possible, with staff on our first coach able to update parents who were waiting at the school. Although delayed, the coach returned safely shortly after midnight. The school will assist the coach company and the police with their ongoing investigations.”
