Tyson Fury reveals how he scored second Oleksandr Usyk fight

The pair went head-to-head for a second time in December – with the Ukrainian scoring a win on points – but Fury remains adamant he won the clash

Tyson Fury is adamant he won his heavyweight rematch with Oleksandr Usyk by at least five rounds.

The ‘Gypsy King’ and the Ukrainian first went head-to-head last May for the undisputed heavyweight title. In an epic back-and-forth encounter, Usyk got his hand raised via split decision. Seven months later, the pair were back in the ring against each other for a second time.

Fury began the contest strong, applying great pressure early on. However, in typical Usyk fashion, he managed to find a way to turn the tide and eventually got yet another decision win against his long-time rival. The Brit was quick to slam the scoring of the contest immediately after the conclusion of the heavyweight dust-up.

Seven months on from their historic sequel, Fury insists he felt as if he did enough to win the fight. On Wednesday, he told reporters in Turkey: “My last fight was a clear f****** victory for The Gypsy King. Anybody in boxing can see that. A complete load of dogs***.

“I want a fair fight, I don’t want any favours, I want a fair fight and a fair result. Which I know I didn’t [get]. I thought I won it by five rounds. I watched it 250 times. Each way I never see it as a way for him to win. They can do what they want. If they say it’s Tuesday it’s Tuesday.”

Just weeks on from the rematch, the Morecambe brawler shocked the boxing world after announcing his retirement from boxing. “Hi everybody, I’m going to make this short and sweet,” he said to the camera. “I’d like to announce my retirement from boxing. It’s been a blast, I’ve loved every single minute of it. I’m going to end with this. Dick Turpin wore a mask. God bless everybody, see you on the other side. Get up!”

Since then, there has been constant speculation that Fury will make a stunning comeback. However, he handed rival Anthony Joshua a major blow after revealing that the only fight that would motivate to make a return is a trilogy fight with Usyk. “If I was going to come back I’d come back for Usyk,” he said. “In England. That’s the one I want immediately, that would be the fight I want next. In England for sure.”

WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman recently reassured Fury that if he does make a comeback, there will be an immediate shot at a world title waiting for him. Speaking to Action Network, Sulaiman said:“If Tyson decides to come back to boxing, he always has a door open with the WBC. He will always be number one so absolutely (we will give him a world title shot if he returns) because he is top of the top. He carried boxing through the dark times of the pandemic and Tyson is the one who elevated the sport and he’s the one who got Saudi Arabia to look into boxing.”

The WBC president further added: “Spencer Brown is a tremendous influence, a great manager and now he’s managing and promoting fighters. It’s a great team so it’s a win win (for everyone) and my love and my gold heart goes to Tyson Fury and his team.”
